December g3rd~ 1958. <br /> <br /> On motion of Mr. Weiseman, these ordinances were referred to~the City Manager and <br />City Attorney, without dzssent~ng vote. <br /> <br />58-375 - The following letter from the Portsmouth Central Labor Union was read: <br /> <br /> "At the last regular meeting o£ the Portsmouth Central Labor Union voted to go on <br />record as endorsing the Lincoln Park project. <br /> That organized labor of all craft~ ~£filiate ~ith the Central Labor UniOn were very <br />much interested in an early start on this said park, to help the unemployment which is at s new high as to com- <br />pare with the unempl6yment estimated at 11,300 mid-February comprised szx per cent of the labor force. This is <br />the figure of March 1958~tabor market trends, Virginia State Employment Service,'Nor£olk and Portsmouth area. <br /> This early start on the Lincoln Park project which call for 180 dwelling units to <br />be constructed, and the payrolls will range from $800,000. to $1;000,000. and help the unemployment at a new low <br />for this ares where some 300 ~o 350 men will be employed on this job.
