<br /> The following days are designated as legal holidays for all employees o£ the City, except
<br />Policemen and Firemen and those engaged in Such e~rployment as necessarily requires their daily services, and for I
<br />all State of£ieers performing duties for the City$ New Year's Day, February twenty-secon~ National Memorial Day~
<br />Fourth of July, Labor Day, Veterans Day, Thanksgiving Day and Christmas Day.

<br /> The City Manager shal2 allow laborers and other per diem employees of the City, e~cept
<br />Policemen and Firemen and those employees engaged in work necessarily requiring daily services, pay for holidays
<br />thus designated, provided suchemployees have worked on the working day preceding and the working day following
<br />the holiday.
<br /> Whenever any of the designated legal holidays fall on a Saturday or Sunday, the said holi-
<br />day shall be observed on the next working day thereafter.
<br />
<br /> In all cases where the exigencies of the City require any labor to be performed on any of
<br />the above-mentioned days by a per diem employee whose work would olherwise entitle him to such holidays, addi -
<br />tional compensation shall be made therefor to such per diem e~ployees at the same rate as such employees regularly
<br />receive, figured on an hourly basis.
<br />
<br /> No other holidays will be observed by either Staze employees partly engaged on City work or
<br />by City employees, excepz when special occasions are forma~y authorized by resolution of the Council."

<br />On motion of ~r. Walker, said ordinance was adopted~ and by the following vote:

<br /> 59-22 - The £~ttowi~g letter, tabled at the last meeting.of the Council, was taken
<br />up and read:

<br /> "It is proper at this time to elect two members to the Minimum Rousing Board. This
<br />necessary to ~ill the unexpired term of W.Do Steele. His term will expire December 31st, 1960.
<br /> Mr. C.M. Hunter's term expired~December 31st~ 1958. This membership on the ~inimum
<br />~ousing Board would be for a three year ~erm expiring December 31st, I961."

<br /> Mr. Bartlett no¢inated Mt. Robert L. Sweeney to the Minimum Mousing Board ~o fill the
<br />~uexpired germ of Mr. W.D. Steele.

<br /> Mr. Breedlove nominated Mr. P. E. Wn~koski to the Minimum Housing Board~ for a three
<br />year term expiring December 31st, 1961.

<br />59-12 - The following letter from the City Attorney was read:

<br /> '~t the meeting of Council held on January 13, 1959, the City Attorney was directed
<br />Do report on the request o~ the Trustees of the First Free Will Baptist Church that the Charch be relieved of
<br />certain real estate taxes. On January 10, 1958, the Church acquired lots 19, 20 and 21 o£ block 22, known as
<br />~16 Lansing Ave., from John B and Myrtle V Craig. Taxes in the amount of. $11~.~5 have been assessed against this
<br />pMoperty ~or the year 1958 in the names of the £ormer owners. If these taxes are ~o be relieved ~rom and after
<br />January 10, 1958, the amount.involved is $113.55."

<br /> Motion of Mr. WeiseEan to concur in the recommendation of the City Attorney and that
<br />the relief of taxes in the amount o~ $11~.55 be placed on first reading, was adopted, withou~ dissenting vote.

<br /> The Plarming Commission recommends to the City Colmcil that the dilapidated building
<br />located on tko northeast corner o~ Si~h Ave. and Queen St ~ be razed by the City and consider offering the lot ~cr
<br />sale,
<br /> The Planning Commission recommends that the City Council consider closirg and vacat-
<br />ing for the purpose of constructing a low rent housing project ertl he area by the Portsmouth Redevelopment and
<br />Mousing Authority.
