<br />ADMINISTRATION TO GIVE FAVORABLE CONSIDERATION TO THE TRANSFER OF TNE PROPERTY
<br />FORMERLY KNOWN AS U.S. MARINE C0t~PS SUPPLY FORWARDING ANNEX TO A NON-PROFIT
<br />CORPORATION, AGENCY ~R AUTHORITY IN THE TIDEWATER AREA WITH A VIEW TO THE
<br />DEVELOPMENT AND USE THEREOF FOR IND~STRIALPURPOSES.

<br /> WHEREAS, the United States Governmen~ owns the property containing about 972
<br /> acres, with certain buildings a~d improvement~ thereon, formerly known as
<br /> U.S. Marine Corps Supply Forwarding Annex, located 12.5 miles northwest of
<br /> Portsmouth, Virginia, at the junction of the James and Nansemond Rivers, in
<br /> Nansemond County, Virginia; and
<br /> WI{EREAS, a determination has been made that this property is no longer re
<br /> quired for use by the Government and is available for disposition zn accord-
<br /> a~ce with the provisions of the Federal Property and Administrative Service Act
<br /> of ~949, as amended; and
<br /> WREREAS, 'that property is highly suitable for industrial development_and use,
<br /> by reason of the-16cation thereof and the improvements thereon; and
<br />WHEREAS, in order to promote the welfare and economy of the Tidewater area,
<br />there is an urgent need for the acquisition of that property by an agency
<br />which will make it available for industrial development and uee, on reasonable
<br />terms;
<br />T~EEFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the Council of the City of Portsmouth, Virginia,
<br />does hereby urge the United States and the General Services Administration to
<br />give favorable consideration to the transfer of said property to s non-profit
<br />corporation, agency or authority in the Tidewater area, with a view to the
<br />development and use thereof for industrial purposes, and
<br />BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that copies of this resolution be sent to Virginia's
<br />Senators and the Congressmen representing the Tidewater area, with the re-
<br />quest that they take all actions they,properly can in ~urt~i~erance of the above
<br />stated objectives."
