<br />8-78 THROUGH 8~86, INCLUSIVE, SO AS TO REPEAL THE ORDINANCE ADOPTED ON
<br />NAY 26, 1959, IMPOSING A TAX ON ALL TOBACCO PRODUCTS, AND SI~UJLTANEOUSLY
<br />TO RE-ENACT THE ORDIN~tNCE THERETOFORE IN-EFFECT TAXING THE SALE OF
<br />CIGARETTES, EFFECTIVE AT-12~01 A.M., SEPTEMBER 1, 1959."

<br /> 59-225 - The following letter from A.J. Mapp, Superintenden~ of Schools, was read:

<br /> "The School Board passed the following resolution at its meeting of August 13th and
<br />respectfully requests that you give your approval at the ~arties~ Possible date:
<br />
<br /> RESOLUTION
<br />WHEtkEAS, there i s some question as ~o whether the title to the
<br />Port Norfolk School proper~y located on Maryland Avenue, resides
<br />mn the School Board or City, the School B~ard respectfully re -
<br />quests the City to give a quit claim deed to the School Board in
<br />order that this property may be disposed of in the manner most
<br />advantageous to the City."

<br /> Motion of Mr. Weiseman to refer to the City Manager and City Attorney was adopted,
<br />without dissenting vote.
<br />
<br />59-226 - The following letter from the Planning Director was read:
<br />
<br /> "The Planning Commission, at a meeting held Thursday, August 20th, 1959, moved that
<br />the Planning Commission recommend to the City Council that the proper resolution be drawn pointing out the fact
<br />that the present plans for the Interstate Highway do no~ prqvide adequate access ~o the down~own business section
<br />of Portsmouth and that further consideration be given this matter.
<br />
<br /> It is recommended that this resolution be presented ro the Highway Commission with a
<br />copy to Mr. Rawls, the Commissioner from this District and also to appropriate officials."
<br />
<br />The C%ty Manager read the following resolution:

<br />"WHEREAS, the preliminary design report for Federal Interstate Route
<br />Nmmber 64 from Bowers Hill to the Norfolk-Portsmouth Bridge Tunnel, as
<br />p~epared by the consulting engineers, in the opinion of the Plm%ning
<br />Co~mission of the City of Portsmouth and other interested officials
<br />and bodies, does not provide adequate or convenient egress from the
<br />
