<br /> 59-340 - The following letter from the Portsmouth School Board was read:
<br /> "The School Board, a~ its regular meeting on December 9th, 1~59, redistricted the
<br />City, subject to ~e approval ~of the City Council, as follows:
<br /> District 'A' ~o begin.at the north end of Mamilton Ave. and extend sou~h on
<br /> Hamilton Ave. and Frederick Blvd. to the Seaboard Railroad; thence, along the main line of
<br /> t~e Seaboard in an easterly direction ~o Elm Avenue; thence south on Elm Avenue and Kings
<br /> Highway to the Southern Branch of tl~e Elizabeth River.
<br /> District 'B' to begin at the north end of Hamilton Ave. and ex~end in a
<br /> southerly directio~ a~long Hamilton A ye, add Fn~derick Blvd. to Gospor~ Road; thence in a
<br /> westerly direction on Gosport Road to the Seaboard Ra~ilro.ad; thence along the Seaboard
<br /> Railroad to the new city limits to the west.

<br /> 'A', two in District ~'B', ~nd two~ in DistriMt 'C'; thereby, en~_b~n~g the Counci~l to appoint ~ze new member from
<br /> District 'B' and one from District 'C' as Of Jan. uar~ l,-~ 1~60. This .would bring the member ship of the School
<br /> Board ~o eleven u~til July l, 1960, when the term of one member in I~istrict 'A' expire~, leaving ten members
<br /> on the Boa~d until July 1, 1961, when the t~rm of a second member expires, leaving a Board of nine members,
<br /> the same as it is now.
<br /> This plan has many ~eatures ~o recommend it and it is the hope of the School Board
<br /> that the City Council will give its approval to the plan."

<br /> "~embers of my fmmily and I have resided in either the Simomsdale or the Hedges Manor
<br />section of Norfolk County, since 1939, and consequently we have been patrons of the Community Motor Bus Company
<br />from the very day they inaug~arated service to this area.
<br /> Never in all these years have they run what I would ~erm a'first class bus service',
<br />and in.the years that followed ~orld War I1 this service has greatly.lessened in reliability, frequency of trips
<br />arud quality of their operating equipment. For years they offered us NO Sunday or hq%idgy service,~u~ their
