<br /> The sentiments of the Planning Commission, in connection with this major undertaking,
<br />are summed up in the Chairman'S letter of transmittal."

<br />61-176 - The following letter ,from Willard, J. Moody was read:
<br />
<br /> "I am writing you in connection with the Cradock Post Office situation. I am sure
<br />that you are aware of the fact that the citizens of Cradock, the Merchants Association and Civic Groups are
<br />interested in keeping the Post Office in ~e Cradock bus,ness area.
<br /> Some of these groups, through their spokesmen,have requested me to assist them in
<br />this matter, and, in this connection, they would like the opportunity no appear before a meeting of the City
<br />Council.
<br /> It would be greatly appreciated if this matter could be placed on your agenda for
<br />consideration on the evening 'of June 27, 1961, at which time they might have the opportunity to present their
<br />views to the Council."

<br />Motion of Mr. Breedlove to suspend the rules to hear from Mr. Moody was adopted.

<br />Mr. Moody spoke and presented the following resolution, which was, on motion of
<br />
<br />Mr. Weisem~n, adopted:
<br />
<br /> "~EREAS, it has been proposed that a mew Post Office Sub-Station be
<br />built in tbs Cradock area of the City of Portsmouth, and
<br />WHEREAS: the present Post Office Sub-Station is conveniently located so
<br />as to best serve those persons intended to be served by said Sub-Station, and
<br /> WI{EIIEAS: the residents and businessmen of this area desire that any such
<br />new Post Office Sub-Station be in the same general location as the one now
<br />serving this area, and
<br /> WHEREAS, there is ample room for parking in this location and it is away
<br />from busy highways or congested traffic conditions.
<br /> NOW THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED, that the Council of the City of Portsmouth,
<br />Virginia, in meeting held this day of , 1961, does hereby
<br />declare its desire that any such new Post Office Sub-Station be located in
<br />the vicinity of the present' Cradock Post-~Office at Alton' and Prospect Parkways,
<br />and
<br /> BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, that copies of this resolution be forwarded to
<br />Honorable Edward J.. Day, Postmaster General, Mr Herman A. Schmidt= Real Estate
<br />Officer, U. S~ Post Office Department, Washington Region, Honorable Porter
<br />Hardy, Jr. and Mr. William E. Doxey, Postmaster, Portsmouth, Virginia."

<br />In this connection, J. M. Orrdck presented the following petition, which was received
<br />
<br />with thanks:

<br /> "We the undersigned, citizens of Cradock and vicinity, respectfully petition the
<br />officials of the Uni.ted States ~ost Of Cice Department, to retain in its present locality the Cradock Sub Station
<br />of the Portsmouth Post Office, where its convenience best serves the highly populated area.
