<br /> This is a request of the Portsn outh General Hospital for the appointment of viewers
<br />for the closing of Naval Avenue east.of Park View Avenue. This ms.the section of ssree5 directly behind the
<br />hospital and is of no use re anyone except the hospital.
<br /> Also attached is a list of names to be~ppointed viewers by the resolution. Five names
<br />are to be selected."

<br />discontinue that portion of Naval Avenue, lying between the eastern line of Psrkview Avenue and the eastern line
<br />of what was formerly Fort Lane, has been referred to the Planning and Zoning Commission for investigation and
<br />report, and said Commission has recommended the closing of ihe said portion of Naval Avenue, and it appearing
<br />that notice of the application and request for the appointment of vmewers was duly posted at the front door of the
<br />Court House on the first day of the November Term of the Court of Hustings of the City of Portsmouth and on the
<br />V. E. P. Company pole at the Northeast Corner of Naval Avenue and Parkview Avenue and the southeast corner of
<br />Hatton Street and Naval Avenue in the City of Portsmouth, Virginia, at l~ast five days prior to this meeting;
<br /> NOW THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED by the Council of the City of Portsmouth, Virginia,
<br />that: Mr. Louis J. Leitner, Mr. R. C. Dempsey, Mr. John W. Bunting, Mr. Kendal Brennan, and Mr. J. N. Willett be

<br />Norfolk ~nd the County of Norfol~ was read:

<br /> WHEREAS t~is Body has been informed that the projected plan for the crossing of the
<br /> Southern Branch of the Elizabeth River by Interstate 64 calls for the construction of a fixed span with a clearance
<br /> of 62 feet;
<br /> AND WHEREAS, the Southern Branch of the Elizabeth River is potentially one of the
<br /> greatest assets for industrial expansion in the Eastern Portion of Virginia, and more especially for potential
<br /> industrial developmen5 in the City of Chesapeake;
<br /> AND WHEREAS, it ms contemplated tha5 the channel will be deepened and widened up the
<br /> Southern Branch so that ocean-going vessels may use a greater portion of the said river.
<br /> NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED, that this body go on record as being vigorously opposed
<br />to the construction of a fixed span low level bridge over said rmver, and do respectfully call upon the Federal
<br />Bureau of Roads and the Virginia Departmen~ of Highways go plan for either a high level bridge, or s draw-bridge
