<br />"AN ORDINANCE TO AMEND SECTIONS 6C-AND 61 OF ARTICI~E II OF THE LICENSE TAX
<br />ORDINANCE OF THE CITY OF PORTSMOUTH, 1960, IMPOSING A LICENSE TAX ON NON-
<br />LOCAL PERSONS ENGAGED IN TIIE CLEANING, PRESSING,~ DYEING AND LAUNDRY BUSINESS,
<br />SO AS TO EXEMPT SUCH PERSON FROM SUCH LICENSE TAX WHERE THE SAME PRIVILEGE IS
<br />EXTENDED BY ADJOINING CITIES TO PORTSMOUTH PERSONS ENGAGED IN SUCH BUSINESS.

<br />BY ADDING THERETO A NEW SECTION NUMBERED 9-13.1, REQUIRING ALL NEW OR
<br />ADDITIONAL ELECTRIC WIRING INSTALLATIONS WITHIN THE FIRE DISTRICTS TO BE
<br />METAL. RACEWAYS OR OTHER ACCEPTABLE-                                                    MEANS.        "

<br />On motion of Mr. Barnes, said ordinance was approved, on first reading.

<br />63-9 - The following ordinance, approved on first reading at last meeting, was taken up
<br />
<br />"AN ORDINANCE TO APPROPRIATE $10,000.00 FROM THE GENERAL CAPITAL IMPROVEMENT
<br />FUND FOR THE PURPOSE OF RENOVATING TH~ BUILDING TO BE USED. BY THE PORTSMOUTH
<br />NAVAL SHIPYARD MUSEUM."

<br />On motion of Mr. Dillon, the ordinance was adopted and by the following vote:

<br />Nays: None.
<br />
<br />                                           63-20 - Refund of $10.45 to Ben Davis for. erroneous assessment of personal property tax,
<br />approved on first reading at last meeting, was taken up.
<br />
<br />On motion of Mr.. Knight, the refund was gmanted', and by the following vote:

<br />Ayes: Smith, Atkinson, Barnes, Dillon, Eastes, Knight.
<br />Nays: None.

<br />NEW BUSINESS
<br />
<br />63-32 - The following communication from the Central Civic Forum was-read:
<br />
<br />                                             "May we direct your attention to a safety hazard and reques~ correction of same at your
<br />earliest convenience.
<br />                                               Our children attending I. C. Norcom and S. H. Clarke schools must walk along Frederick
<br />Blvd. from the Seaboard tracks to Portsmouth Blvd. and along Turnpike Road from Constitution Avenue ~o Frederick
<br />Blvd. on the paved rc~d surface in competition with vehicular traffic or walk along dirt paths which become
<br />veritable pools when it rains and/or snows.
<br />
<br />                                          This committee has consulted the Public Works Engineer after having made aSurvey of the
<br />traffic on routes indicated and we deem ii aecessary at this time to ask your consideration for installation of
<br />sidewalks along said routes.
<br />
<br />The Mayor stated that the City Manager is handling this matter.
<br />
<br />Motion of Mr. Knight to refer to the City Manager was adopted, without dissenting vote.

<br />63-33 - The following communication from the Superintendent of Schools was read:
