Etheriage of the Portsmout. h Sports Club spoke for the <br /> <br />resolution. <br /> <br /> Motion of Mr. Eastes to receive,the following resolution with thanks and refer to a <br />conference of the Council was adopted, without dissenting vote: <br /> <br /> "RESOLVE, THAT WHEREAS, Frank D~ Lawrence wss the founder snd opera~or of $ professional <br />baseball team in the City of Portsmonth, V~rginia,~ spnnni~g~ a peraod~ of .time in excess of fifty years; and <br /> WHEREAS, through the devotio~ of his time, energies and personal resources the population <br />of the said city was the beneficiary of. wholesome rec~eation.~uring that period of time; and <br /> WHEREAS, Frank D. Lawrence was primarily responsible for the acquzsition of federal funds <br />which assisted in the erection of.the Portsmouth Municipal Stadium which in addition to being used b~ s profession'l <br />baseball tesm, has been available to the public school sysEem for the stsging of athletic events; <br /> NOW THEREFORE, be it RESOLVED, that the Portsmouth Spor~s Club does hereby petition the <br />City Council of the City of Portsmouth, Virginia, to rededicate the Portsmouth Municipal Stadium and that in <br />such rededicstion its name be changed to Frank D.
