<br />64-200 - The following communication and resolution from the Chamber of Commerce was read:
<br />
<br /> "Please find attached a copy of the resolution passed by the Board of Directors of the Portsmouth
<br />Chamber of Commerce at their reguatr meeting, Monday July 20, 1964."
<br />
<br />"RESOLUTION ADOPTED BY BOARD OF DIREL~RS OF THE PORTSMOUTH CHA~iBER OF CO~vIERCE, REGUALR ~ETING
<br />MONDAY, JULY 20, 1964."
<br />
<br /> PfHEREAS, the City of Portsmouth has pending an annexation case against the City of Ches~neake which
<br />~ncludes all of the Western Branch Borough and a part of the Deep Creek Borough of Chesapeake, and
<br /> ~HEREAS, the Portsmouth Chamber of Commerce has promoted the growth and development of the City of
<br />Portsmouth and its trading area for forty-three years; and,
<br /> ~EREAS, the program conducted by this Chamber, to mee'c this objective, include industrial and
<br />agricultural development, highway and traffic improvement including the removal of tolls on the Nansemond River
<br />Bridge; improvement of educational facilities and curriculum; and the development of tourist attractions;:and~
<br /> WHEREAS, a large percentage of the members of this Chamber reside in the Western Branch Borough of
<br />the ~ity of Chesapeake whose business and p~efessional firms are located in the City of Portsmouth; and,
<br /> WHEREAS, due to the heavy concentration of population and limited indutriat areas remaining in the
<br />City of Portsmouth it is deemed absolutely essential that th~ area petitioned for in this annexation case b~
<br />granted to Portsmouth to insure its future growth and development; and
<br /> NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the Board of Directors of the Portsmouth Chamber of Co~nerce on
<br />this the twentieth day of July, nineteen hundred and sixty-four, voted to become an intervenor in this annexation
<br />case and to employ the firm of Moody, Mattox, Young and West as legal ~oundil~"

<br /> Motion of Mr. Knight to acknowledge and refer to the attorneys handling the annexation case, was
<br />adopted, without dissenting vote.

<br />64-201 - The Clerk read the following letter from Hugh R. Cory of Liberty Mutual of Boston, Massa-
<br />
<br /> "With reference to the Community Motor Bus Company Indemnity Bond-S20,000.00, Penalty Bond No.
<br />QM1-151-908105-21, please accept this letter as evidence of our intent to cancel same, in accordance with the
<br />cancellation provision therein. Considering the usual five days mailing provision we are, therefore, considering
<br />this to be cancelled as of December 2S, 1964."
<br />
<br /> Motion of Mr. Barnes to refer to the City Manager and City Attorney with a ~equest that the City
<br />Manager report back to Council as soon as an indemnity bond for Community Motor Bus Company has been received, was
<br />adopted without dissenting vote.
