A_bril ~14. 1998 <br /> <br /> Motion by by Mr. Griffin, to adopt the <br />following ordinance, and was.adopted by the following vote: <br /> <br /> "ORDINANCE TO AMEND THE FY 1998 OPERATING BUDGET BY <br />APPROPRIATING $1,750,000 IN THE GRANTS FUND." <br /> <br />Ayes: Benn, Clemons, Griffin, Martin, Pitts, Robinett, Holley <br />Nays: None <br /> <br />98-79 Adoption of an amendment to. Section 35-12 of the City Code authorizing <br /> the City Manager to approve refunds of erroneously collected real estate <br /> taxes and interest totaling $1,000 or less. <br /> <br />_Recommendation: <br /> <br />Adoption of an amendment to Section 35-12 of the City Code authorizing the <br />City Manager to approve refunds of erroneously collected real estate taxes <br />and interest totaling $1,000 or less. <br /> <br />Purpose and Need: <br /> <br />· City Code Section 35-12(f) now requires that the City Council approve all refunds <br /> of erroneously assessed real estate taxes if interest is also paid on the refund. <br /> <br />· The current code provisions require citizens to wait an unnecessarily long period <br /> of time in order for a refund request to be placed on the Council's agenda. <br /> <br />· City Council and staff time could be better utilized if routine refund requests <br /> of $1000 or less are approved administratively. <br /> <br />Financial Imnact: <br /> <br />· This code amendment will require no expenditure of City funds. <br /> <br /> Motic~n bY Mr. Clemons, and seconded by Mr. Robinett, to adopt the <br />following ordinance, and was adopted by the following vote: <br /> <br /> "ORDINANCE TO AMEND CHAPTER 35 OF THE CODE OF THE CITY OF <br />PORTSMOUTH, VIRGINIA (1988) BY AMENDING SECTION 35-12(~ THEREOF <br />PERTAINING TO RELIEF FROM ERRONEOUS REAL ESTATE TAX <br />ASSESSMENTS." <br /> <br />Ayes: Benn, Clemons, Griffin, Martin, Pitts, Robinett, Holley <br />Nays: None <br /> <br />98-80 Adoption of an ordinance amending Chapter 37 of the Code of the City of <br /> Portsmouth entitled "Vehicles for Hire," including taxicabs. <br /> <br />Recommendation: <br /> <br />Adoption of an ordinance to amend Chapter 37 of the Code of the City of <br />Portsmouth entitled "Vehicles for Hire." <br /> <br />Purpose and Need: <br /> <br />Chapter 37 regulates the ownership and operation of taxicab companies, <br />tow truck companies and employee haulers. Proposed amendments are <br />primarily concerned with the safety, health and welfare of citizens. <br /> <br />Vehicle company owners have raised specific concerns and needs <br />concerning the current ordinance and proposed changes. These <br />needs/concerns have been taken into account by City staff. <br /> <br /> <br />
