September 29, 1964 <br /> <br /> 64r243 - "The Portsmouth Water Department office in Suffolk will be moving into 2he new Suffolk <br />Municipal Building in the very near future. <br /> The present location of the Water Department Collection Of£ic~, at 130 N. Saratoga Street, owned <br />by the Water Department, will b? o~ no value to. the D~partment when it moves. <br /> I recommend that I be authorized to advertise this property for sale when the office has been <br />moved.: <br /> <br /> Motion of Mr. Dillon to concur zn the recommendation of the City Manager was adopted without <br />dissenting vote. <br /> <br /> 64-244 - "The Hampten Roads Committee on Area-Wide Cooperation requested the City Managers of the <br />area to meet with reference to the Anti-Poverty Bill. <br /> A meeting of the Managers was held on Thursday, September 17, 1964, and ii was concluded that the <br />Managers would recommend to their individual Councils that all cities join in s preliminary study, to be made by <br />reputabte consulting firm, which will only give us information as to what we will need in the ~ay of a survey if <br />we are either individually or collectively going to participate in the Anti-Peverty Program. <br /> ~t this moment, we cannot expect Federal funds to participate in this particular survey; but as a <br />result of this survey, we would hope to be able to inform the Council as to what Federal participation will be <br />available in developing, as a result of a survey zn depth, a program for the entire area or for each individual <br />dity. The extimated cost of this preliminary study is $7,000, with the cost to be shared on a per capita basis. <br /> Even though the City of Suffolk is ~not represented on the Hampton Roads Committee on Area-Wide <br />Cooperation, Suffolk would like to be included in this preliminary study and share the cost with the rest of the <br />cities <br /> I recommend that the City of Portsmouth participate in this preliminary study." <br /> <br /> Motion of Mr. Barnes to concur with the recommendation of the City Manager was adopted, without <br />dissenting vote. <br /> <br /> 64-245 - "I submit the attached letter from the City Assessor, advising me of an erroneous <br />assessment against the Gulf Oil Company. <br /> I recommend that .~he City Auditor be authorized to refund $105.75. pai~i in error by the Gulf Oil <br />Company." It does not reflect the many <br />hours Mr. Duke spent in supervisory activities with market managers, oil companies, and in surveillance of scrap <br />iron dealers, etc. <br /> Our new Law has required Mr. Duke 5o devote s considerable amount of his time and effort in the <br />area of package labeling and advertising of petroleum products at local service stations. This area, plus <br />newspaper advertisements, will be expanded in the coming year. <br /> <br /> <br />
