Howard, Rear Admiral USN Retired. <br /> <br /> On motion of Mr. Leafy the nominations were closed. <br /> <br /> Vote being taken Admiral Howard was elected a member of the Portsmouth ~ort Commission for a four <br />year term beginning January 1, 196S. <br /> <br />NEW BUSINESS <br /> <br />65-11 - The following letter from Tidewater Youth Association was read: <br /> <br /> "The education committee of the Tidewater You~t~h Association request permission to have a second <br />Conference with ?ou to report its' progress concerning the VocatiQnal Training Project and discuss further the <br />possibility of using the Key Road School for this training. <br /> We look forward to hearing from you with a great deal of anticipation." <br /> <br /> Motion of Mr. Johnson that the City Manager make arrangements for the conference as requested, was <br />adopted withdut dissenting vote. <br /> <br /> 6S-12 - Report of inspection of the City Jail by the Department of Welfare and Institutions was <br />presented and on motion of Mr. Knight received as information. <br /> <br /> 65-15 - Report of inspectioh of the lock-up <br />and Institutions <br /> <br />recommend that <br /> <br /> of the City of Portsmouth, by the Department of Welfare <br /> was presented and on motion of Mr. Dillon received as information without dissenting vote. <br /> <br /> 6S-14 - The following communication from the Planning Director was read: <br /> <br /> "At its regular monthly meeting on January S, 196S, the City Planning Commission resolved to <br />the following streets in the bed of expressway Interstate 26~ by vacated: <br /> <br /> 1. Lansing Avenue and Charleston Avenue between Service Road "H" and South Street. <br /> 2. Richmond Avenue, Parker Avenue, Atlanta Avenue and Camden Avenue between Race Street and South <br /> Street. <br /> 3. Prentis Avenue from the Seaboard Air Line Railroad south to Service Road "I". <br />4. Maple Avenue from Service Road "I" north to its terminus. <br />5. Laural Avenue from the ~ight-of-way line of Interstate 264 north to its terminus which is <br /> approximately 150 feet. <br />6. Chestnut Street from approximately 100 feet north of Griffin Street to 100 feet north of Scott <br /> Street. <br />7. Green Street from approximately 100 feet south~of Bart Street to Race Street. <br />8. Race Street from approximately I00 feet west of Prentis Avenue eastward to Maple Avenue; also, <br /> between Laurel Avenue and Hffingham Street. <br /> Griffin Street from Chestnut Street to Washington Street. <br /> Clifford Street from approximately 125 feet east of Chestnut Street to Hffingham Street; also, <br /> between Service Road "J" mid-way between Hffingham and Green Streets to Washington Street." <br /> <br /> Motion of ~. Finding no reason sufficiently valid for recommending <br />approval, the Planning Commission resolved to make no recommendation for any change. <br /> <br /> Z-65-2 - Petition of Roughton Realty Corporation to rezone property described as follows: Beginning <br />approximately 60~northwest of the intersection of the centerline of Bunche Boulevard and Gust Lane; thence <br />northwest along the centerline of Gust Lane approximately 150 feet; thence west approximateiy~470 feet to Cavalier <br />Manor properties; thence south approximately 140 feet to Victory Park prooerties; thence east approximately 500 feet <br />to the point of origin; from Commercial C-2 and Residential R-75 to Indus%rial M-1. To clarify some uncertainty <br />about the exact location of the zoning district boundary line and to rectify ~n error of omission, the Planning <br />Commission resolved to recommend approval of this application. <br /> <br /> Z-65-4 - Petition of Agent John A. MacKenzie to rezone property described as follows: Beginning at <br />the northwest corner of Portsmouth Boulevard and City Park Avenue; thence west along the north right-of-way line <br />of ~ortsmouth Boulevard approximately 200 feet t~ the east right-of-way line of Stanley Road; thence north <br />approximately 165 feet; thence east to the west right-of-way line of City Park Avenue; thence south along <br />said line approximately 165 feet to t~ point of origin; from Residential R-75 to Residential R-60-A. Based upon <br />its public hearing, study, and field trip of March 1965, and in recogniti~n:-of the crossroads zoning policy generall <br />agreed upon nearly two years ago for this section of Ports~louth Boulevard, currently under reconstruction, the <br />Planning Commission resolved to ~ecommend approval of this application- <br /> <br /> <br />
