Clemons, Bernard D. Griffin, <br />Sr., Cameron C. Pitts, James T. Martin, P. Ward Robinett, J. Thomas Berm III, <br />Deputy City Manager Johnna R. Lee, City Attorney G. Timothy Oksman. <br /> <br /> The following Youth Advisory Commission members were present and <br />joined City Council on the dais: <br />1. Jina Gaines <br /> <br />2. Glenn Hazelwood <br />3. Amani Jackson <br />10.Arlando Whitaker <br /> <br /> Vice Mayor Clemons opened the meeting with prayer, which was <br />followed by the Pledge of Allegiance to the Flag. <br /> <br /> Mayor Holley called the meeting to order and welcomed all in <br />attendance. <br /> <br /> Motion by Mr. Pitts, and seconded by Mr. Martin, to approve the minutes <br />of a Called Meeting on May 12, 1998, and a Regular Meeting on May 12, 1998, <br />and was adopted by unanimous vote. <br /> <br />98-126 Presentation: <br /> <br />· Proclamation presented to Erline Smith for "Nurse Assistants Week." <br /> <br />- City Manager's Report - <br /> <br />98-127 <br /> <br />Adoption of an' ordinance to amend Chapters 16, 23, and 35 of the <br />Code of the City of Portsmouth, Virginia (1988) by amending Sections <br />16-69(b), 23-7, 35-3(e), 35-5(a), and 35-74 and by repealing Sections 35- <br />31 through 35-39 thereof pertaining to the position of Delinquent Tax <br />Collector. <br /> <br />Recommendation: <br /> <br />Adoption of an ordinance to amend the City Code of the City of Portsmouth <br />to remove the references to "Delinquent Tax Collector" and replace it with <br />"Treasurer" as needed. <br /> <br />Purpose and Need: <br /> <br />· Better utilization of collection opportunities is provided to the Treasurer by <br /> the Code of Virginia. <br /> <br />· Employees in the City Treasurer's Office have been cross-trained in <br /> delinquent tax collections. <br /> <br />Financial Impact: <br /> <br />· There is no financial impact. <br /> <br /> <br />
