May 26~98 38 9 At a Regular Meeting. Of th~Cit~/Council on Tuesday, May 26, 1998, there were present: Mayor James W. Holley III, Vice Mayor Johnny M. Clemons, Bernard D. Griffin, Sr., Cameron C. Pitts, James T. Martin, P. Ward Robinett, J. Thomas Berm III, Deputy City Manager Johnna R. Lee, City Attorney G. Timothy Oksman. The following Youth Advisory Commission members were present and joined City Council on the dais: 1. Jina Gaines 2. Glenn Hazelwood 3. Brian Borne 4. Jared Yancey 5. Aljay McGaskey 6. James Jackson 7. Christina Lewis 8. Myoshi Lawrence 9. Amani Jackson 10.Arlando Whitaker Vice Mayor Clemons opened the meeting with prayer, which was followed by the Pledge of Allegiance to the Flag. Mayor Holley called the meeting to order and welcomed all in attendance. Motion by Mr. Pitts, and seconded by Mr. Martin, to approve the minutes of a Called Meeting on May 12, 1998, and a Regular Meeting on May 12, 1998, and was adopted by unanimous vote. 98-126 Presentation: · Proclamation presented to Erline Smith for "Nurse Assistants Week." - City Manager's Report - 98-127 Adoption of an' ordinance to amend Chapters 16, 23, and 35 of the Code of the City of Portsmouth, Virginia (1988) by amending Sections 16-69(b), 23-7, 35-3(e), 35-5(a), and 35-74 and by repealing Sections 35- 31 through 35-39 thereof pertaining to the position of Delinquent Tax Collector. Recommendation: Adoption of an ordinance to amend the City Code of the City of Portsmouth to remove the references to "Delinquent Tax Collector" and replace it with "Treasurer" as needed. Purpose and Need: · Better utilization of collection opportunities is provided to the Treasurer by the Code of Virginia. · Employees in the City Treasurer's Office have been cross-trained in delinquent tax collections. Financial Impact: · There is no financial impact.
