Seotember 15, 1966 <br /> <br /> 66- - Motion of Mr. Knight to go into the election of members to fill the vacancies <br />on the Parking Authority, was adopted, without dissenting vo~e. <br /> <br /> Mr. Johnson nominated Dr. James W. Holley, 100 Stratford Drive, for a term expiring <br />May 1st, 1969. <br /> <br /> On motion of Mr. Leafy, nominations were closed. <br /> <br /> Vote being taken, Dr. Molley was unanimously elected a member of the Parking Authority. <br /> Mr. Eastes nominated Robert L. Davis, 524 Patrick Street. <br /> <br /> On motion of Mr. Knigkt, nominations were closed. <br /> <br /> Vote being taken, Mr. Davis was unanimously elected a member of the Parking Authority <br />for a term expiring May 1st, 1967. <br /> <br /> Mr. Knight nominated Bernard L. Rivin. <br /> <br /> On motion of Mr. King, nominations were closed. <br /> <br /> Vote being taken, Mr. Rivin was unanSmously elected a member of the Parking Authority <br />for a term expiring May 1st, t970. <br /> <br /> 66- 143- Motion of Mr. Leafy to go into the election of a member to fill the vacancy <br />on the Board of Adjustments and Appeals. <br /> <br /> Mr. Leafy nominated Arthur V. Deal, 200 Pine Road. <br /> <br /> Motion of Mr. Eastes to close nominations was adopted. <br /> <br /> Vote being taken, Mr. Deal was unanimously elected a member of the Board of Adjustments <br />and Appeals for a term expiring September 1st, 1969. <br /> <br /> 66- - Motion of Mr. Knight to go into the election of a member of the Portsmouth <br />Coast Guard Museum 8oard, was adopted. <br /> <br /> Mr. King nominated Mr. Rudy Costner, 41S Pennington Boulevard. <br /> <br /> On motion of Mr. Eastes, nominations were closed. <br /> <br /> Vote being taken, Mr. Costner was unanimously elected a member of the Portsmouth <br />Coast Guard Museum, for a term ending January $1st, 1967. <br /> <br />-NEW BUSINESS- <br /> <br /> 66-165 - The following letter from Solomon J. Carny, President, united civic League, <br />was read: <br /> <br /> "~e respectfully request permission to read in your hearing a petition <br />from residents of Stuart ~ard Srd Precinct concerning resurfacing of our streets." <br /> <br /> Motion of Mr. Knight to suspend the rules to hear from Mr. Carey was adopted, without <br />dissenting vote. <br /> <br />~r, Carny introduced Raymond Turner, who presented the following petition: <br /> <br />"Your undersigned petitioners respectfully represent the following: <br /> <br /> That they are citizens and property owners of the City of Portsmouth, Virginia, residing <br />in Victory Manor, Lincoln Gardens and Victory Park. <br /> <br /> Your petitioners further represent that recently the City Highway Department has put <br />tar and rocks on the streets in the vicinity of the homes of your petitioners. <br /> <br /> That by virtue of the tar h~ing on the streets in its present condition, the streets <br />are sticky and in an lm~afe condition. The tar is a menace to autbm~biles traveling on the streets, <br />in that it tends to spatter on them. Futhermore, it is virtually impossible to avoid tar from <br />being tracked into the homes in the area~ <br /> <br /> [~herefore, we respectfully appeal to your honorable body te have asphalt placed on <br />these' streets as it is in the best interest of the community. <br /> <br />Signed - James A.
