September 15, 1966 <br /> <br />On motion of Mr. Hastes, the ordinance was adopted, and by the following vote: <br /> <br />Ayes: Smith, Hastes, Johnson, King, Knight, Leery <br />Nays: None <br /> <br /> 66-130 - The following ordinance, approved on first reading at last meeting, was <br />taken up and read: <br /> <br />"AN ORDINANCE TO APPROPRIATE $6,000.00 FROM THE GF~ERAL CAPITAl IMPROVEMENT <br />FUND FOR THE PURCHASH OF PROPERTY AT 120 SEABOARD AVENUE" <br /> <br />On motion of Mr. Leafy the ordinance was adopted, and by the following vote: <br /> <br />Ayes: Smith, Hastes, Johnson, King, Knight, Leafy <br />Nays: None <br /> <br /> 66-131 - The following ordinance, approved on first reading at last meeting, was <br />taken up and read: <br /> <br />"AN ORDINANCE TO CLOSE A PORTION OF DETROIT STREET" <br /> <br />On motion of ~r. Johnson, the ordinance was adopted, and by the following vote: <br /> <br />Ayes: ~mith, Eastes, Johnson, King, Knight,Leafy <br />Nays: None <br /> <br />66-i44 - The following resignation from James A. Overton was read: <br /> <br /> "I hereby submit my resignation as a member of the Planning Commission. <br /> It has been a rewarding experience for me to have had the opportunity <br />to serve my city as a memh~r'of the Commission." <br /> <br />The following resignation from James L. Smith, Jr.~was read: <br /> <br /> "Please accept my resignation, effective this date, from the Portsmouth <br />Planning Commission. <br /> <br /> I have enjoyed serving on this Commission very much. I think that Portsmouth <br />is moving forward and the Sixties will be remembered as m decade of progress. Much of this <br />progress will be due to the efforts of Mr. J. Brewer Moore and the leadership of the Commission <br />Chairman, Mr. W. T. Goode, Jr. and I feel priviliged to,-have had a small part in it." <br /> <br /> Motion of Mr. Knight that the resignations be accepted and that Mr. Overton and <br />Mr. Smith be thanked for their services on the Planning Commission,was adopted, without <br />dissenting vote. <br /> <br /> 66-111 - Motion of Mr. Hastes to go into the election of members to fill the <br />vacancies on the Portsmouth Redevelopment and Housing Authority, was adopted, without <br />dissenting vote. <br /> <br />Mr. Bastes nominated James A. Overton, 625 Effingham St. <br /> <br />On motion of Mr. Knight, nominations were closed. <br /> <br /> Vote being taken, Mr. Overton was unanimously elected a member of the [lousing <br />Authority for a term ending September llth, 1970. <br /> <br />Mr. Kni'~ht nominated J. L. Smith, Jr., of 354 Middle Street <br /> <br />Qn motion of Mr. Hastes, nominations were closed. <br /> <br /> Vote being taken, Mr. Smith was unanimously elected a member~of the Housing Authority <br />for a term ending September llth, 1967, <br /> <br /> 66-144 - Motion of Mr. Johnson to go into the election of members to fill the <br />vacancies on the Planning Commission, was adopted. <br /> <br />Mr. Leary nominated Harvey N. Johnson, Jr., 2400 Palmer Street <br /> <br />On motion of Mr. Knight, nominations w~re closed. <br /> <br /> Vote being taken, Mr. Johnson was unanimously elected a member of the Planning <br />Commission, for a term ending January 1st, 1968. <br /> <br /> Mr. Johnson nominated Dr. N~il Callahan and B. C. Moring, as members of the Planning <br />Commission. <br /> <br />On motion of Mr. Knight, nominations were closed. <br /> <br /> Vote being taken, Dr. Callahan and Mr. Moring were unanimously elected members of <br />the Planning Commission, for terms expiring January 1st, 1969. <br /> <br /> <br />
