<br />66-162 - "I submit the attahcedordinance and recommend that it be' placed on first reading.

<br /> This ordinance amends the License Tax Ordinance by deleting from Section 87 the
<br />category regarding money lenders or mortgage companies, lye find that this is a repetition of
<br />Section 71 which pertains to loan companies.
<br />
<br />These two sections are in conflict, and the amending of Section 87 will
<br />
<br />correct this."

<br /> On motion of Mr. Leafy, the following ordinance was approved on first reading, without
<br />dissenting vote:
<br />
<br /> "AN ORDINANCE TO ~4END SECTION 87 OF THE LICENSE TAX ORDINANCE OF THE CITY OF
<br /> PORTSMOU~H, 196S, RELATING TO-PROFESSIONAL OCCUPATIONS"
<br />
<br /> 66-163 - "I submit the attached resolution and recommend its adoption. This appoints five
<br />viewers for the closing of Hanover Street, north of King Street. This street dead ends.,into the
<br />water at this location.
<br />
<br /> The Planning Commission recommended the closing of this street in September of
<br />1965, but no action has been taken by the requesting parties until this time."

<br />On motion of Mr. Knight, the following resolution was adopted, without dissenting vote:

<br /> "?~EREAS, George N. Ripley and Leona F. Ripley, husband and wife, and Inda S. Dunn,
<br />have made application to vacate ahd Close that portion of Hanover Avenue lying between the north
<br />lin~King Street and Beaten Creek, and it appearing that notice of the application and request
<br />for the appointment of viewers was duly posted on August 50, 1966, on the bulletin board of the
<br />Court of Hustings for the City of Portsmouth, on the bulletin board of the Circuit Court of the
<br />City of Portsmouth, and on the bulletin board of the Municipal Court of the City of Portsmouth;

<br /> NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED by the Council of the City of Portsmouth, Virginia,
<br />that Leo ¥. Schocklin, Graydon D. :Meginley, Millard C. Norman, Zalmon 1. Blachmon and R. A. Craig, Jr.,
<br />be appointed viewers to view said street and renort to this Council in writing whether in their
<br />opinion any, and if any, what inconvenience would result from vacating and closing the aforementioned
<br />part of Hanover AvenueJ"

<br />This establishes a Board for the Law Library and,defines the-duties and functions.
<br />
<br /> Th~ Bar Association has requested this action in order that they can begin to
<br />ma~e necessary preparations for the operation of the Law Library."
