Sentember 13; ]966 <br /> <br /> WHEREAS, the construction of said interchange would contribute to the <br />convenience-and safety off,the motoring public. <br /> <br /> NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED by the Council of the City of Portsmouth, <br />Virginia, that the State Highway Department be and the same hereby is requested to survey and <br />design an interchange for Interstate Route 264 at Greenwood Drive in the City of Portsmouth <br />under the federal urban aid program. <br /> <br /> BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, that the City of Portsmouth hereby declares that <br />it is willing to contribute its share oftthe cost under the federal urban aid program. <br /> <br /> BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, that copies of this resolution be forwarded to the <br />State Highway Department and the U, S. Bureau of Public Roads. <br /> <br /> 66-155 - "Bids were opened on Wednesday, August 7, for the construction <br />of curbs and gutters and the rehabilitation of streets in various sections of the City. <br />Two bids were received as follows: <br /> <br />Portsmouth Paving Corporation <br /> Portsmouth, Virginia <br /> <br />$275,204.10 <br /> <br />Bi~sch Construction Corporation <br /> Norfolk, Virginia <br /> <br />$285,857.52 <br /> <br /> Portsmouth Paving Corporation being the low bidder, I recommend <br />that the con~ract be awarded this firm." <br /> <br /> Motion of Mr. Leery that the contract be awarded to the Portsmouth Paving <br />Corporation, the low bidder, was adopted, without dissenting vote. <br /> <br /> 66-153a - Motion of Mr. Knight to suspend the rules to permit chairman Euclid <br />Hanbury to conduct a public hearing on %~le letter of consent area for the new civic centex. <br /> <br /> ~ Mr. Joseph~. Harm of ~iullen and Lonergan Associates, ~Inc., of Philadelphia <br />presented in~fmation r~lative to the letter of consent area. <br /> <br />No one spoke in regard to the matter. <br /> <br /> 66~154 - "l submit the attached agreement between the Portsmouth Humane <br />Society and the City of Portsmouth and recommend that the proper Ci%y Officials be authorized <br />to s~gn. <br /> <br /> Due to the increased number of animals being handled by the Portsmouth <br />Humane Society, they have found it necessalT to enlarge their quarters on Frederick Boulevard. <br />They a~e proposing to expend approximately $5,000 for this addition. It has also been necessary <br />for them to employ additional personnel at the shelter. <br /> <br /> Based on these increased needs, they have requested an increase <br />in their contract with the City for the housing of animals. <br /> <br /> The new conZract calls for an ~annual payment of $7,500 in lieu <br />of the present contract of $5,000 annually." <br /> <br /> Motion of Mr. Hastes to authorize the City Manager to sign the agreement <br />with the Portsmouth Humane Society, was adopted, without dissenting vote. <br /> <br /> 66-155 - "On W~dnesday, August 51, bids were received for the sale of <br />surplus City property located at the southeast intersection of Hartford Street and Shes Court. <br /> <br />One bid was received .from James G. Collier in the amount of $5,000. <br /> <br />I recommend taht the property be sold to ~r. Collier for the <br /> <br />above amount." <br /> <br /> Motion of Mr. Leafy to concur in the recommendation of the City Manager, <br />was adopted, without dissenting vote. <br /> <br /> 66-156 - "On Tuesday, September 6, bids were received fo~ the sale of 16 <br />City lot~ as shown on the plat of Sykes-Wilder Addition to West Park View. <br /> <br />One bid was received in the amounZ of $10,000 from Portsmouth <br /> <br />Elks Lodge No. 82. <br /> <br />I recommend that the property be sold to the Elks Lodge for the <br /> <br />above amount. <br /> <br /> Motion of Mr. Johnson to approve the City Manager's recommendation was adopted, <br />without dissenting vote. <br /> <br /> <br />
