<br /> WHEREAS, the nonstruction of the aforesaid interstate highways will probably
<br />generate additional traffic through the downtown tunnel under the southern branch of the
<br />Elizabeth River between Norfolk and Portsmouth.
<br />
<br /> NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED by ~he Council of the City of Portsmouth,
<br />Virginia, that the State Highway Department is hereby requested to enlarge its present
<br />study of the interchange in Berkley to include in its study the need for an additional tube under
<br />the sbuthern branch of the Elizabeth River between Norfolk and Portsmouth.
<br />
<br /> BE IT FURTHHR RESOLVED that a copy of this resolution be forwarded to the
<br />State Highway Commissioner and the City of Norfolk.
<br />
<br /> Adopted by the Council of the City of Portsmouth, Virginia, at a meeting held
<br />November 8, 1966."

<br /> 66-2S5 - "The City ofPortsmouth pruchased from ~r. Thomas M. Wetherbee property
<br />located at 150 Seaboard Avenue in conjunction with the development of the Marine Terminal
<br />in Pinners Point.
<br />
<br /> The deed was received by the City on October 21, 1966 for this property,
<br />and Mr. Wetherbee had paid taxes for the entire year; therefore, he is entitled to a refund
<br />of $25,55, representing taxes from October 21 thru December S1, 1966.
<br />
<br />I recommend that this refund be granted Mr. Wetherbee."
<br />
<br /> Motion of Mr. King to concur in the recommendation to grant the refund, was adopted,
<br />without dissenting vote.

<br /> 66-256 - "I submit the attacheddordinance and recommend that it be placed
<br />on first read%ng.
<br />
<br /> Due to the demolition in conjunction with the new court and jail
<br />facilities, it is necessary to close County Street between Crawford and Water Streets;
<br />therefore, this ordinance is being submitted to change the direction of traffic on King Street,
<br />between Crawford and Water Streets, from west to ea§t. The traffic on the remainder
<br />of King Street will continue to flow in a westerly direction.
<br />
<br /> This will then allow traffic to reach Water Street by ~ay--of King
<br />Street in lieu of County Street."
<br />
<br /> On motion of Mr. King, the following ordinance was approved' on first reading
