November 22) 1966 <br /> <br /> On motion of Mr. Leary, the following ordinance was approved on first reading, <br />without ~issenting vote: <br /> <br />"AN ORDINANCE TO ~,~ND THE CODE OF THE CITY OF PORTSMOUTH, VIRGINIA, 1961, BY <br />~NDING SECTIONS 9-12, 9-19, 9-39, 9-41, 9-42 ~{D 9-S0 THERHOF, PERTAINING TO <br />ADOPTION OF THE NATIONAL ELECTRICAL CODE, ISSUANCE OF PERMITS TO DO ELECTRICAL <br />WORK, E~.~LOYMENT OF UNCERTIFIED PERSONS, APPLICATIONS FOR EXAMINATION AND BOND <br />REQUIRED, RESPECTIVELY; AND BY ADDING THERETO A NEW SECTION NUMBERED 9-29 <br />PERTAINING TO CERTIFICATES TO DO LIMITED ELECTRICAL ~0RK" <br /> <br /> 66-268 - "I submit the attached ordinance and recommend that it be placed on <br />first reading. This amends Section 230-44 and 230-70 of the National Electrical Code in order <br />that it will apply to local 6onditions. <br /> <br /> In Section 230-44, it changes the words "should notV to "shall not" pertaining to <br />service entrance conductors being run within the hollow spaces of frame buildings. <br /> <br /> In Section 230-70, it amends section (b) pertaining to the location of disconnecting <br />means by adding the following: <br /> <br /> ~Provided, however, that the service disconnecting means, if inside, shall be-:~wit~in <br />25 feet of the point of entry of service conductors unless permitted elsewhere hy the <br />electrical inspector; and further provided, that bathrooms, toilets, pantries and closets <br />shall not be considered readily accessible unless so determined by the electrical inppector.~'' <br /> <br /> On motion of Mr. King, the following ordinance was approved on first reading, without <br />dissenting vote: <br /> <br />"AN ORDINANCE ~0 AbfEND SECTIONS 230-44AND 230-70, OF THE NATIONAL ELECTRIgAL <br />CODE, 1965, PERTAINING TO WIRING AND DISCONNECTING MHANS GHNERALLY" <br /> <br /> 66-269 - "I submit the attached ordinance and recommend that it be placed o~ first <br />reading. This appropriates $6,500 for the purchase of property at 143 C~rolina Avenue from <br />~. Hugh J. Davis. <br /> <br /> This is being acquired in connection with the development of the <br />Pinners Point Marine Terminal." <br /> <br /> On motion of Mr. Johnson, the following ordinance was approved on first reading, <br />without dissenting vote: <br /> <br />"AN 0RDIN~NCE TO APPROPRIATE $6,500.00 FROM TEE GENERAL CAPITAL I~ROVE~NT <br />FUND FOR ~tE PURC}~SE OF PROPERTY AT 145 CAROLINA AVENUE IN PINNERS POINT" <br /> <br /> 66-270- "I submit the attached ordinance and recommend that it be placed on first <br />reading. This appropriates $9,500 for the purchase of a portable classroom and equipment for the <br />Kirk-Cone Rehabilitation Center. <br /> <br /> This has been requested by the Snperintendent of Portsmouth Public Schools <br />to be used temporarily until such time as Federal funds have been Bpproved for the construction <br />of a new rehabilitation center. <br /> <br /> This classroom is needed for additional teaching area due to the <br />crowded conditions in the present center. <br /> <br /> The City will retain title to the building, and it will be used at a different <br />location when it is notlonger needed for the rehabilitation center." <br /> <br /> On motion of Mr. Leary, the following ordinmnce was approved un first reading, without <br />dissenting vote: <br /> <br />"AN ORDINANCE TO APPROPRIATE $9,500.00 FROM THE GENERAL CAPITAL IMPROVE~NT FUND TO THE <br />SCHOOL BOARD OF THE CITY OF PORTSB~UTH FOR THE PURCHASE OF A MOBILE CLASSROOM FOR THE <br />KIRK-CONE REHABILITATION CENTER" <br /> <br /> 66-271 - "I submit the attached ordinance and recommend that it be placed on first <br />reading. This appropriates $12,250 for the purchase of prpperty at 825, 827 and 829 Sixth Street. <br /> <br /> This property is within the block of the Jefferson Street School and is to be <br />used for the expansion of the playground area. <br /> <br />This will complete the purchase of all properties except one within this block." <br /> <br /> On motion of Mr. Barnes, the following ordinance was approved on first reading, without <br />dissenting vote: <br /> <br />"AN ORDINANCE TO APPROPRIATE $12,~0~00 FROM THE GENER~CAPITAL IMPROVEMENT FUND TO <br />~{E SCHOOL BOARD OF THE CITY OF PORTSFDUTH FOR THE PURCH~E OF PROPERTY AT 825-827 <br />AND 829 SIXTH STREET" <br /> <br /> <br />
