November 14, 1967 <br /> <br />-UNFINISHED BUSINESS- <br /> <br /> 67-506 - The following ordinance, approved on first reading at last meeting, was taken up <br />and read: <br /> <br />"AN ORDINaNCE TO APPROPRIATE $9,500.00 FRO~ THE GENERAL CAPITAL IMPROVEMENT <br />FUND FOR THE PURCHASE OF LOTS 145 AND 146 ON CAROLINA-AVENUE, 111 PINNERS <br />AVENUE AND 170 CAROLINA AVENUE IN PINNERS POINT" <br /> <br />On motion of Mr. Johnson, the ordinance was adopted, and by the fotl6wing vote: <br /> , knight, <br /> Ayes: Smith Hastes, Johnson, King, · ' Lea~/ <br /> Nays: None <br /> <br /> 67-507 - The following ordinance, approved on first reading at last meeting, was taken uo and <br />read: <br /> <br />"AN ORDINANCE TO APPROPRIATE $3,300.00 FRO-~! _THE GENERAL FUND FOR THE PURCHASE OF MATERIALS <br />AND SUPPLIES FOR THE PORTSMOUTH COAST GUARI~D~USEUM" <br /> <br />On motion of Mr. King, the ordinance was adopted, and by the following vote: <br /> Ayes: Smith, Eastes, Johnson, King, Knight, Leafy <br /> Nays: None <br /> <br /> 67-516 - Motion of Mr. Knight to go into the election of a member to the Naval Shipyard <br />Museum Board was adopted. <br /> <br />Mr. Leafy nominated Mrs. Robert P. Babb, 4 Pinecroft Lane. <br /> <br />On motion of Mr. Knight, the nominations were closed. <br /> <br /> Vote being taken, Mrs. Babb was elected a member of the Museum Board to fill the mnexpired <br />term of Mrs. Jmmes S. Morse, whose term exnires on May 1, 1969. <br /> <br />-NEW BUSINESS- <br /> <br /> 67-326 - A notice from the City Clerk that the term of Mrs. W. E. Waters a member of the <br />Portsmouth Law Library Bo~o~, expired November 1, 1967, was read. <br /> <br />On motion of Mr. Johnson, referred to a conference. <br /> <br /> 67-527 - A notice from the City Clerk that the terms of office of the following on the <br />Library Board, will expire December 1, 1967, was read: Mrs. R. F. M~%~urran, Belvin W. Blachman, <br />and Moses F. Gibson. <br /> <br />On motion of Mr. Leafy, referred to a conference. <br /> <br />67-328 - The following letter from Charlie M. Willis, 2611 Smithfield Road, was read: <br /> <br /> "I enclose herewith a petition to City Council, regarding the closing of Smithfield Road, <br />which we would like presented to the next meeting of the Council. <br /> We should like to.have Charles M. Troxell to sneak on our behalf. Please advise us as to date <br />and time, and whether he will be permitted to speak." <br /> <br />Motion of Mr. Hastes to suspend rules to hear Mr. Troxell, was adopted. <br /> <br />Mr. Troxell spoke regarding the closing of Smithfield Road. <br /> <br />Motion of Mr. Knight to refer to the City ~qanager, was adonted without dissenting vote. <br /> <br />67-329 - The following letter from Jamms W. Gregory was read: <br /> <br /> "I, James W. Gregory, having resided at 501 Nottingham Road in the City of Portsmouth for the <br />last ten years, and now residing in the City of Chesaoeake (in the area which will be annexed on <br />January I, 1968) do hereby apply for appointment to the position of Justice of the Peace in the <br />newly acquired area. ! ~wn my home in approximately the cen%er of the area which is being annexed. <br /> I am a retired Naval Officer with 60% disability, a Notary Rep%~lic, and a registered voter <br />in the City of Portsmouth. I am bondable and have never been convicted of a crime; therefore, <br />I am eligible for the position for which I have applied. If I am appointed I will serve faithfully <br />and willing in the e~cution of my office, and due obedience pay to those aopointed or elected <br />to a position of authority over me in the due performance of the same. <br /> I sincerely thank you for your kind and patient consideration of this request. I shall be <br />happy to meet with the Council at any appointed time for discussion of this matter should it be <br />deemed necessary by the Council." <br /> <br /> Motion of Mr. Leafy to receive the application and olace it in the file with other applications <br />for this position, was adooted, without dissenting vote. <br /> <br /> <br />
