May 14 1968 <br /> <br /> - UNFINISHED BUS_NESu <br /> <br />68-140 - The following ordinance,~approved on first reading at last meeting, was taken uD and read: <br /> <br />"AN ORDINANCE TO CLOSE PORTIONS OF CRABAPPLE STREET, THOMAS CIRCLE, BART STREET, CLIFFORD <br />STREET~LND GRIFFIN STREET, LOCATED IN THE ?~EAVER REDEVELOPMENT PROJECT VA. R-40." <br /> <br />On motion of Mr. Eastes, the ordinance was adopted, and by the following 2otc: <br /> <br /> Ayes: Smith~ Barnes, Eastes, Johnson, King, Knight, Leafy <br /> Nays: None <br /> <br />68-145 - The following ordinance, approved on first readin~ at last meeting, was taken up and read: <br /> <br />"AN ORDIZ~ANCE TO PE~{IT THE HNCROAC~ENT OF THE PROFESSIONAL BUILDING OWNED BY OFFICE BUILDING <br />CORPORATION UPON THE SIDEWALK ON THE SOUTH SIDE OF HIGH STREET AND OVER THE SIDEWALK ON THE <br />EAST SIDE OF I~ASHIN~TON STREET." <br /> <br />On motion of Mr. Leafy, the ordinance was adopted, and by the following vote: <br /> <br /> Ayes: Smith, Barnes, Eastes, Johnson, King, Knight, Learv <br /> Nays: None , <br /> <br /> - NEW BUSINESS - <br /> <br /> 68-160 - Motion of Mr. Knight to go into the election of five members to serve on the Board of Architectur- <br />al Review in connection with the Historic District of Olde Towne was adopted. <br /> <br /> Mr. Knight nominated the following: <br /> <br /> Mrs. Owen T. Rippey for a five year term <br /> John Paul Hanbury for a four year t~m,~ <br /> Warren P. Liveley for a three year term <br /> Kirk Berkeley for a two year term <br /> R, B, Bartlett for a one year ter~ <br /> <br /> On motion of Mr. King, nominations were closed. <br /> <br /> Vote being taken, those nominated were unanimously elected for the terms smecified, to the Board of <br />Ar~kitectural ~ev~ew, <br /> <br /> 68-161 - The following letter from the Simonsdal~ Civic Club was read: <br /> <br /> "The Simonsdale Civic Club will have reoresentatives at the Council meeting May 14, 1968, to oresent <br />petitions for curbing and gutters for Simonsdale, <br /> <br /> Mr, Herbert Dietrick, President of the Club will be smokesman for the Club. <br /> <br /> Arrangment on the docket will be appreciated. <br /> <br /> Thank you. (Signed - Mrs. S. H. Reynolds, Secy.)" <br /> <br /> Motion of Mr. Barnes to suspend the rules to hear Herbert Dietrick, was adopted. <br /> <br /> Motion of Mr. Eastes to accept the oetition and refer it to a conference on curbs and gutters. <br /> 68-162 - The followin~ letter from the City Clerk was read: <br /> <br /> "The terms of office of the following members of the Coast Guard Lightship Museum Board have expired: <br /> <br /> Caot. Ronald Freeman <br /> Frank L. Kirby <br /> Richard F. Wood <br /> <br /> The resignation of Capt. William S. Vaughan is attached." <br /> <br /> ~otion of ~r. KniEht to acce~t the resignation of Capt. Vaughan and that he be sent a letter commending <br />him for his services on the Board~ was adopted, without dissenting ~ote. <br /> <br />vote.MOtion of Mr, Eastes to refer the vacancies on the board to a conference~ was adopted, without dissenting <br /> <br /> 68-165 - The following letter from the City Clerk was read: <br /> <br /> "T~e terms of the following member of the Portsmouth Naval Shipyard Board of Directors expire this <br />month: <br /> <br />Mrs. Walter Galliford <br />Mrs. !%~. E. Iqaters <br />Dr, James Parrish <br /> <br /> The resignation of Zalmon I. Blachman is attm~hed." <br /> <br /> Motion of Mr. Barnes to accent the resignation with regret~ and that a letter be written Mr. Blachman <br />thanking him for his services, wa~ adopted, without dissenting vote. <br /> <br /> <br />
