68-299 - The following report from the Portsmouth Parking Authority was read:

"At the request of the Council of the City of Portsmouth, Virginia, the Portsmouth Parking A~thority
recently conducted an extensive survey into t~e feasibility of the Authority acquiring the property now owned
by Mr. Saves Joannou located on t~e east side of ~ashington Street between King and County Streets.

Immediately upon receiving Council's request the Portsmouth Parking Authority contacted Mr. Hefoert
Robertson, realtor in the negotiations between Mr. Joannou and his prospective lessee, Trailways Bus Company.
Mr. Robertson was most cooperative and agreed to act on behalf of the Authority to see if other property in
.the area might be suitable for the bus company, thereby paving the way for the Authority to buy the land that
~{r. Joannou is currently planning to lease to Trailways, leaving Mr. Joannou the proceeds from this sale with
which to acquire other property to lease to Trailways.

Mr. Robertson talked with thet~lhree property owners on the southwest corner of County and }iashington
Streets. He found that all three would be willing to sell although he felt the price was a little high. Dis-
regarding this~ however, he contacted ~r. H~phries of the Trailway~ Bus Company in Raleigh, North Carolina.
Mr. Humphries &~dicated that Trailways had looked at many locations in Portsmouth, including the southwest
corner of Washington and County and found none suitable to their needs. They are interested only in the pro-
perty presently owned by Mr. Joannou and will not consider any other.
