As I <br />said before, it is one of the nices5 things that has ever happened ro me." <br /> <br />On motion of Mr. Turner, received as information. <br /> <br /> 69-278 - The following letter from A C Bartlett, Chairman of the Portsmouth <br />Charter Commission, was read: <br /> <br /> "In accordance with information in our file, the Charter Commission should report <br />its recommendations to the Portsmouth City Council in September 1969. Will the City Council please gran5 an <br />exsension time until November 10 , 19697 The Commission has completed.its recommendations relative to the con <br />rents of the proposed revised charter: but, the extended time will be used in the following manner: <br /> <br />November <br /> <br />1. An announcemen5 will be made to the effect that the proposed revised charter is <br /> ready, and copies of the proposed charter, along with copies of the presen~ charter <br /> will be made available 5o the public in limited numbers <br />2. A public hearing will be held, after properly spaced advertisements and press re - <br /> leases, at 7:30 P M on October 21, 1969. in the Council Chamber or other proper <br /> place. At this hearing the general public will be invited 5o be heard on the <br /> subject of charter revisions. <br />3. The proceedings and commen~s received a5 the public hearing will be reviewed and <br /> evaluated by the Charter Commission a5 a meeting of the Commission on October <br /> 27, 1969. <br />4. Final draft of the Commission's recommendations in the form of z copy of the proposed <br /> new charter will accompany the Commission's final repor~ to the Portsmouth City Council <br /> on November 10, 1969. <br /> It is hoped that the Council will favorably consider this reques~ for an extension <br /> 10, 1969. <br /> Respectfully submitted - Portsmouth Charter Commission. <br /> <br /> Motion of Mr. King ~o concur in the reques5 of the Portsmouth Charier Commission <br />was adopted~ without dissenting vo~e. <br /> <br /> 69-279 - The following letter from Lorraine D Smith, President, Woman's Democra- <br />tic Club of Portsmouth, was read: <br /> <br /> Enclosed is a copy of a resolution that was passed at our June meeting. We would <br />be pleased if you would have it read a5 the next meeting of the Portsmouth City Council. <br /> <br /> Motion of Mr. Turner To receive as information and that the resolution be filed <br />with other correspendence regarding the C~Rrt~ouse property, was adopted, without dissenting vo~e. <br /> <br />"RESOLUTION - ~EREAS~ We, of the Women's Democratic Club of Portsmouth, <br />believe that beauty as a value is of usmosr worth 5o a community; <br />AND WHEREAS; We are in common accord with all civic organizations that <br />seek to preserve and develop beauty in the City of ~ortsmouth, we applaud <br />the Portsmouth Historical Association's decision to work toward the preser- <br />vation of the Court House building a~ High and Cour5 Sts., Portsmouth; <br />AND WHEREAS; We feel there is the need for a cultural censer in the City, <br />dedicated to the preservation and public display of ar5 and artifacts, that <br />will develop in our citizens a deeper appreciation of the pass, we are in <br />favor of the Portsmouth Historical Association's plan 5o ultimately house <br />such a museum and cultural cen~er at this location; <br />THEREFORE, Be it resolved that the Women's Democratic Club of Portsmouth <br />heartily endorses the action of the Historical Association concerning the <br />preservation of the Court House building.' <br /> <br /> 69-280 - A letter from w B Sharer, Jr., regarding TVDC was read, and on motion <br />of Mr. Smith, received as information. <br /> <br /> <br />
