September 9th. 1969 <br /> <br /> 69-281 - The following letter from the Deputy City Treasurer,regarding real estate <br />uaxes, was read: <br /> "Herewith is a list of delinquent real estate taxes for the first two quarters of <br />1969. Total amount delinquent - $148,630.70. The origSnal of this list has been given To David M Grant, Delin- <br />quent Tax Collector." <br /> On motion of Mr. Turner, referred to a conference. <br /> <br /> 69-282 - The following letter from the Cradock Property Owners' Association was <br />read: <br /> "It was brought to the attention of the Cradock Property Owners' Association that <br />some lots in the vicinity of Rex and Morris Streets were requested to be rezoned for multiple housing units by <br />the Planning Commission and were rejected. We understand that an appeal will be made to City Council on Tuesday, <br />September 9, 1969 ro overrule the Plan~ing Commission. <br /> This Association requests that the City Council reject this appeal and let the <br />present zoning remain. Signed Edward F Pool, President. <br /> <br />Motion of Mr.E~s~es to receive as information was adopted, without dissenting vote. <br /> <br /> 69-283 - The following letter from the Superintendent of Schools was read, and, <br />on motion of ~. King was received as information: <br /> <br /> "The School Board of the City of Portsmouth is grateful to the city council for <br />their early approval of teachers' salaries for the 1969-70 school session. This action allowed the administra - <br />tion to begin early recruitment for new teachers. Thus, as we begin the new school year, the quality of the <br />teaching staff of the Portsmouth Public Schools ms outstanding. <br /> Through the co-operation of the city council, the School Board of the City of <br />Portsmouth can provide the children of Portsmouth more effective and efficient educational opportunities. With <br />your continued support, the progres~ of education throughout the City can be accelerated." <br /> <br />Motion of Mr. King to receive as information was adopted, without dissenting vote <br />69-284 - The following letter from Mrs. Sadie Copeland was read: <br /> <br /> "I would like to know if ~ lot has been secured for the playground that was to <br />have 3een in Brighton. Mr. Frank Keeling and I came before you all asking for a playground to be set up mn <br />Brighton. Since then we have not heard anything more about it. Please let us know if there will be a playground <br />in Brighton." <br /> <br /> The City Manager stated that the lot is available but the playground equipm enE <br />has not been delivered. <br /> <br /> Motion of Mr. Eastes to receive as information and that the City Manager inform <br />Mrs. Copeland of the status of the playground for Brighton , was adopted, without dissenting vote. <br /> <br /> 69-285 Motion of Mr. 5olley ~o suspend the rules to hear Mrs. Delores Jacobs <br />of the Welfare Rights Organization, was adopted, without dissenting vote. <br /> <br /> Mrs. ~acobs spoke regarding the need for clothing for school children and re - <br />quested emergency funds, amounting to $50.00 for each school child, for this purpose. <br /> <br /> Mrs. Richard Harrison spoke regarding the clothes closet a~ Westhaven School, <br />which has good used clothing ready for distribution. <br /> <br />Mrs. Sadie Copeland spoke. <br /> <br />On motion of Mr. Turner, the request was referred to the City Manager, without <br /> <br />dissenting vote. <br /> <br />Motion of Mr. Smith to adjourn was adopted. <br /> <br />City Clerk <br /> <br />Approved - <br /> <br /> ~// President , <br /> <br />*~otion of Mr, Eastes that the School Board be a~horized to ~se a portion of these funds (estimated cost <br />$35~000.00 to defray the cost of temporary cafeteria facilities at I C Norcom High School, was a~op~ed~ <br />without dissenting vote. <br /> <br /> <br />
