Holly Avenue: <br /> <br />FromMadtson Street (Harding Street) and a point 40 feet south of <br />Southern Drive. <br /> <br />Sunnyside Avenue: <br /> <br />Beginning 272 feet north .of Broadway and extending north to Southern <br />Drive. <br /> <br /> S-69-16 Petition of B. R. Crumpler, by Attorney R. C. Barclay, to vacate a 20 foot strip along the west <br />side of Hamilton Avenue between King Street and a point in the vest right-of-way line of Hamilton Avenue 50 <br />feet south of the east right-of-way line of Airline Boulevard. <br /> <br /> S-70-1 Petition of Attorney Norman Olitsky, for Noland Company and Construction Associates, to vacate <br />Columbia Street between Potomac Avenue and Hamilton Avenue. There is an eight inch sanitary sewer line and <br />a VEPCO line which should be considered in the reservation of utility easements. <br /> <br /> S-70-2 Petition of Attorney Donald Kilgore, for Tarfa Corporation, to vacate MacArthur Avenue between <br />High Street and Perry Street. Currently, this is only a one-way street. There-is a VEPCO line and a Portsmout} <br />Gas Company line to .be considered in reservatin of utility easements." <br /> <br /> Motion of Mr. Eastes to refer to the City Attorney for proper action was adopted, without dissenting <br />vote. <br /> <br />70~7~- The following letter from Wayne Johnston, University Young Republican Club, was read: <br /> <br /> "I would like to take this opportunity to present you with a request we feel worthy of your attention~ <br />It is hoped that you will receive it in the spirit is is intended. <br /> <br /> As young people we have an obv~iousty significant stake in the resolution of the conflict in VietnaM. <br />As students, perhaps we, better than others feel that freedom of expression and moderate dissent is essential <br />to our liberty. <br /> <br /> The situation this country now faces is damaging to our society. Gentlemen, itig time we ~mercians unite <br />in alleviating these problems. I{~at we ask is not a sell out or repression of dissent -- merely support for a <br />constructive, realistic, and constructive, realistic, conscientious program.for peace and domestic harmony. <br /> <br /> It is in this ppirit of non-partisan concern that the University of Virginia Young Republican Club asks <br />you to con~ider and pass a resolution backing the President's efforts to attain a lasting peace. <br /> <br /> It is hoped that you will not tmke this matter lightly ~ that you d__o let the President's office know <br />of your support. <br /> <br /> Gentlemen, it is only too obvious that it is the young who will bear the costs of the shunning of present <br />national responsibilities and realities. <br /> <br />We would greatly appreciate your letting us know o{ your decision. Thank you." <br /> <br /> Motion of Mr. Turner to receive as information and refer to conference for study was adopted, without <br />dissenting vote. <br /> <br /> 70-18 - The following letter from Benjamin A. Haddon, Chairman, Portsmouth Dunedin Civic Understanding <br />Commission was read: <br /> <br /> "I request permission to Fresent to City Council on the meeting night of January 151, next, a Charter <br />of recognition to the Citizens of Portsmouth from the Town Affiliation Association. <br /> <br /> As you are aware, two of these charters were received and via air mail I have arranged that on the same <br />date listed above a similar charter will be presented to the Dunedin City Council. <br /> <br /> This presentation will take a very few minutes and I w~uld prefer making this presentation during the <br />first part of your meeting if I may." <br /> <br /> Mr. Haddon presented the Charter in recognition of Portsmouth's contribution to internation under- <br />standing. <br /> <br /> 70-19 - The following letter from the Deputy Lord MayOr of Portsmouth England was presented, and on <br />motion of Mr. King received as information: <br /> <br /> "I was delighted to receive today from the Commanding Officer of H.M.S. Eagle, your vg~kind gifts. We <br />were so pleased to receive a copy of "Portsmouth Under Four Flags 1752-1961" by Marshall W. Butt and were most <br />interested to see from the excellent photographs the development of~ your own ~ity. My wife and I were also <br />very pleased to be presented with the pins Of C.S$S. Virginia. <br /> <br /> It is wonderful to know that our two cities maintain these links and we often have the opportunity of <br />meeting members of the United States Navy who know your part of A~erica well. <br /> <br /> May I take this opportunity of wishing you and your ,citizens a most happy Christmas and very prop~p~ous <br />New Year." <br /> <br />70-20 - Motion of Mr. Eastes to go into the election of a member to the Minimum' Housing Board was adoptedf <br /> <br /> ~{r. Eastes nominated Shirley Manbury to succeed himself for a term of three years, expiring December 51, <br />1972. <br /> <br />Motion of Mr. Holley to close nominations was adopted. <br /> <br />Vote being taken Mr. Hanbury was elected for the term specified. <br /> <br /> <br />
