<br />"AN ORDINANCE TO 3J~END S~CTIONS 18-79, 10-80 AND 10-83 OF THE CODE OF THE CITY OF
<br />PORTSMOUTH, VIRGINIA, 1961, PERTAINING TO THE. RATE OF T;~%ATION ON UTILITY SERVICES
<br />AND TO THE TIME WHEN SIJflq TAXES SHALL BE PAID OVER TO THE CITY."

<br /> 70-235 - "I submit the attached ordinance and recommend it be placed on first reading. This establishes
<br />a tax on cigarettes in the amount of 104 per pack. This is an increase of 34 to take effect July 1, 1970.
<br />This increase is necessaryto balance the new budget."

<br /> 70-254 - "I submit the attached ordinance and recommend it be placed on first reading. This establishes
<br />a tax on shares of bank stock. ~his is an annual ordinance adopted by the City to allow the City to participate
<br />in the tax that is regulated by the S~e. The State has a tax ~f $1.00 per $100 value of ~ank S~ock and by
<br />the adoption of this ordinance, the City is allowed to collect 40~ of each one dollar assessed by the State."

<br /> "AN OPDINANCE I~OSING TAXES ON ~HARES OF STOCK OF BANKS LOCATED IN THE CITY OF
<br /> PORTSMOUTH FOR THE YEAR 1971 ~ND ;2~NUALLY THEREAFTER, FIXING THE RATE AND REQUIRING
<br /> THE PAYN~NT THBRHOF, REQUIRING CERTAIN REPORTS, ~ND PRESCRIBING PENALTIES FOR THE
<br /> VIOLATION THEREOF."

<br /> 70-~35 - "I submit the attached ordinance and recommend it b~ placed on first reading. This establishes
<br />a rate {or providing sewer service to all the properties in the City of Portsmouth. This is to cover the cost
<br />of the maintenanceofthe lines and debt service for lateral sewers. It has nothing to do with the treatment
<br />~harges. The rate for this is established at 13{ per 100 cubic feet, based on water.consumption. It will
<br />apply to the ameas of the City served by the City sewers as well as the area served by Hampton Roads Sanitation
<br />District.

<br /> This ordinmuce also includes the rates for the treatment of sewerage by the City. These rates have not
<br />been changed. It does amend the rate for truck-hauled waste taken from septic tanks that is treated at the
<br />treatment plant. The charge will be $4.00 up to 2,250 gallons, and $7.00 for all over 2,250 gallons~ This
<br />increase is necessary due to increased cost of labor mud chemicals."

<br />AND TRUCK-HAIJLED WASTE BRO~4 SEPTIC TANKS.''~

<br />This revises the

<br /> These changes are necessary regarding real estate to conform to it he new Charter revisions pertaining to
<br />the assessment of raal estate. This prescribes as to when the land book must be prepared and completed, and
<br />establishes a new time for hearings by the Equalization Board. This is done to provide for the assessments and
<br />Equalization Board hearings to conform with a fiscal year basis.
<br />
<br /> This also further provides for the payment of personal property taxes in June rather than December of each
<br />year. It will not affect personal property taxes payable for the year 1970. These will become due by
<br />December 5, 1970. For the year 1971, personal property taxes must be paid by June 30."
