November 10. 1970 <br /> <br /> 70-496 - The following resolution presented by the City Manager was adopted and by the <br />following vote: <br /> <br />"RESOLUTION OPPOSING THE APPLICATION OF THE RAILWAY EXPRESS AGENCY TO <br />DISCONTINUE ITS OFFICE AT WEST NORFOLK. <br /> <br /> WHEREAS, the Railway Express Agency, Inc. of Virginia has applied to the State Corpora <br />ration Commission for permission to discontinue its local office at West Norfolk in the <br />City of Portsmouth; and <br /> <br /> WHEREAS, the City of Portsmouth is aware of the problems experienced by the said <br />company in connection with the operation of, the aforesaid office and the reasons behind <br />the request to discontinue this service; and <br /> <br /> WHEREAS, the discontinuance of the said office would eliminate the only place for <br />such service in the City of PortsmoUth. <br /> <br /> NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED by'the Council of the City of Portsmouth, Virginia, <br />that this body hereby recommends that the State Corporation Commission deny the request <br />of the Railway Express Agency, Inc., of Virginia for permission to discontinue its office <br />at West Norfolk in the City of Portsmouth. <br /> <br /> BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, that a copy of this resolution be forwarded to the Railway <br />Express Agency, Inc., of Virginia and the State Corporation Commission." <br /> <br />Ayes: Holley, Johnson, King, Smith (I), Smith (R), Turner, Barnes <br />Nays: None <br /> <br /> - UNFIniSHED BUSINnESS - <br /> <br /> 70-462 ~ The following ordinance, approved on first reading at Iast meeting, was taken up and read: <br /> <br /> "/~l ORDINANCE TO APPR0[LRIATE $59,050.00 FROM THE GENERAL CAPITAL IMPROI~blENT FUND FOR <br />THE PURCHASE OF EQUIP~N~f FOR THE MOBILE CRI~IE LABORATORY." <br /> <br /> On motion of Mr. King, the ordinance was adopte.d, and by the following vote: <br /> <br /> Ayes: Holley, Johnson, King, Smith (I)i, Smith (R), Turner, Barnes <br /> Nays: None <br /> <br /> 70-463 - The following ordinance, approved on first reading at last meeting, was taken up and read: <br /> <br /> 'tAN ORDINANCE TO APPROPRIATE $35,000.00 FR0~{ ~tE GBNEP~L CAPlT~ IMPROVEMENT FUND FOR <br /> THE CONSTRUCTION OF PARKS UNDER THE FEDERAL "PAPal<S-IN-CITIES" PROGRAM.*' <br /> <br /> On motion of ~'-,r.
