This reaction is pursuant to a request from our Engineering Department, which <br />must assign an official street name to this new highway. Early action is suggested since the <br />new highway is due to be completed by the end of next month, and street signs must be erecte~ <br /> <br /> A mdt~d~ by.Mr. Burrell Jdhnson and seconded by Mr. Raymond Smith, to;-c~ncur with the <br />recommendations of the Planning Commission. <br /> <br /> A substitute motion by Mr. Holley to refer the mmtter to a. conferenc~ with the Planning <br />Commission and City Council, was adopted, and by the following vote: <br /> <br /> Ayes: Holley, King, !rvine Smith, Barnes <br /> Nays: Johnson, Raymond Smith <br /> <br /> 71-224 The following letter from Mary F. I only want to be a Justice of the Peace for <br />the marriage limits. <br /> <br /> If I have to perform the full duty of this office of Justice of the Peace, I would glad] <br />prepare mMself to do so. <br /> <br /> I am the 10th child of the late Deacon and Mrs. Alphonso Beamon of 220 Belle Street, <br />Portsmouth, Virginia. ' September 10, 1919 As the date of my birth. Mother of ten children, <br />who are grown and foster parent of 5 children. Schmidt, President, Health, Welfar~ <br />Recreation Planning Council, was read: <br /> <br /> "I am pleased to advise you of the following which was adopted by the Board o~ Directors <br />at their meeting on May 17, 1971. <br /> <br /> 'WHEREAS, we are interested in and dedicated to making the City ~he most desirable and <br />satisfactory place in which to live, work and play; <br /> WSEREAS, We are deeply concerned at the physical deterioration taking place in many <br />of our residential neighborhoods; <br /> WHEREAS, the maintenance and up grading of housing is a vital aspect of keeping the <br />city as a desirable place in which to live, work and play; <br />AND ~HgREAS, the character of the housing problem required substantial commitment of <br />time, effort and funds for any hope to retain the present satisfactory community atmosphere; <br /> BE IT RESOLVED, that the Planning Council urges the members of the City Council and the <br />City Manager to make every effort to assure full enforcement of the Minimum Housing Code on <br />as wide a community basis as possible. <br /> BE IT RESOLVED, that the Planning Council endorses and urges early adoption of ordinances <br />to implement the program for ~egistzation and inspection of rental property requested by the I <br />Minimum HoUsing Board, including fees to cover all or a substantial portlon of the costs., <br /> <br /> In addition, I would like to call your attention to the enclosed copy of a most valid <br />editorial entitled Keeping Cities Up. It cannot be too strongly stessed that there is a need <br />for both thos~ making policy and ~managing the city to do everything possible, including <br /> <br /> <br />
