<br /> 71-588(b) On motion of Mr. Johnson and seconded by Mro King, ~he report regarding
<br />petition presanted by the Chesport Corporation to rezone property 225 feet southwest of
<br />the southeast corner of Oregon Avenue and Kings Highway, to disp~n~se with reading and to
<br />be received as information, was adopt~ by the following vote: (See Exhibit 71-588 (b))

<br />Nays: None
<br />
<br />71-440 The following statement was presented:
<br />
<br /> "The Council of the City of Portsmouth, Virginia, wishes to make it known that it
<br />applauds the action taken by the Commissioners of the Portsmouth Redevelopment and Housing
<br />Authority in directing the filing of civil suits to mestore all misappropriated funds to the
<br />Housing Authority treasury.
<br />
<br /> The Council further wishes to re-emphasize that it strongly urges the eventual indict-
<br />ment and prosecution of anyone guilty of criminal wrongdoing in this matter.
<br />
<br /> On motion of Mr. Turner and seconded by Mr. Raymond Smith, to adopt the statement was
<br />carried by the following vote:

<br />72-8 The following letter received from Director of Planning was read:
<br />
<br /> "At its regular monthly meeting on January 4, 1972, the City Planning Commission un-
<br />animousIy resolved to recommend disposal of a parcel of City property located on the north
<br />side of Glasgow Street between Potomac and Vermont Avenues. This request is by Mr. Frank C.
<br />MitchelI of 3212 Glasgow Street and is being handled by Attorney James Garrett, Jr. It is
<br />described as lots l0 and 11 on the plat of the West Port Norfolk Land Company as recorded
<br />in Map Book 6, Page 85, in'the Clark's Office of the Circuit Court of the City of Chesapeake,
<br />Virginia. It is further described in our City of Portsmouth Tax records on Plat 352 as Parcel
<br />22.1, with dimensions of approximately 36' x 108'."

<br /> On motion of Mr. Irvine Smith and second by Mr. Turner, to be refered to the City
<br />Attorney for proper handling, was adopted by the following vote:

<br />72-9 The following letter received from Director of Planning was read:

<br /> "At its regular monthly meeting on January 4, 1972, the City Planning Commission un-
<br />animously resolved to recommend an amendment of the City Set-Back Ordinance to provide
<br />proper restrictions along Tovme Point Road, from the Chesapeake Corporate Limits to its
<br />future Interchange with Route 164, the Western Freeway:

<br />'No structure along either side of Towne Point Road, from the Chesapeake Corporate
<br />Boundary to proposed Route 164, as shown on plans for the Western Freeway prepared
<br />by the Virginia Department of Highways, shall be erected closer than 25 feet to
<br />the proposed new right-of-way line.'

<br /> 72-10 - The following letter received from Mrs. Thelma V. P. Jones, request to speak
<br />on Siskle-Cell Disease was read:
<br />
<br /> "I wish to meet withy~mat your next meeting, this concerns Sickle-Cell Disease a~d a
<br />few more things concerning this disease, I feel you should know.
<br />
<br /> I have a letter from a man who served his Country well and now is not able to hold his
<br />baby because of this disease. He wish~s ~e to read a letter to you. I also have a list of
<br />names to give you. No, the City of Portsm'outh and the State of Virginia is not doing all it
<br />can for these victims and we have the papers to'show you on that. The victims of S.C.A., the
<br />P.O.W, the M.T.B., and their loveones feel that they are all a has been in Virginia, and that
<br />Virginia people in office just do not care, if t~is ~s not true with this Board then please
<br />help me to let these people ~ow that you will do all you can to help them.
<br />
<br /> The City Manager gave us a permit to ask for funds in Portsmouth, but the department
<br />store managers, say No. The School Board said "No", so what good did the permit do us?'
