<br />This appropriates $15,000 from the City Garage Fund unappropriated surplus.
<br />
<br /> The appropriation is needed as funds for automotive parts, tires and tubes which
<br />have almost been depleted. The warranty on the automotive equipment is now for 12,000 j
<br />miles instead of the 50,000 previously allowed. Also, parts have increased in cost an avera e
<br />of 20 percent. We have also delayed in replacing some of the equipment which has required
<br />additional expenditures from this budget category."

<br /> 72-100 - "I submit the attached agreement and recommend the proper City officials be
<br />authorized to sign. This is an agreement between Construction Associates and the City of
<br />PoFtsmouth pertaining to the closing of Race Street between Frederick Boulevard and Fauquier
<br />Avenue.
<br />
<br /> Construction Associates desire to close this street an~ realign it into Scott as it
<br />intersects with Fauquier. The Corporation will deed the necessary land and pay for all
<br />improvements necessary for the widening of Scott Street. Tkey will also provide a vegetativ~
<br />planting screen along the shopping center. In return, the City will transfer its interest
<br />in Race Street to Construction Associates when Race Street is closed.
<br />
<br /> The closing of Race Street at the intersection with Frederick Boulevard will eliminate
<br />a double intersection at this location which creates traffic control problems.
<br />
<br />If the City Council agrees, it should adopt the attached resolution."

<br />"A RESOLUTION REQUESTING AUTHORIZATION TO ENTER INTO AN AGREEMENT WITH
<br />CONSTRUCTION ASSOCIATES, INCORPORATED RELATING TO THE CONVEYANCE OF THE
<br />CITY'S PART OF RACE STREET TO CONSTRUCTION ASSOCIATES, INCORPORATED IF AND
<br />WHEN' RACE STREET IS CLOSED.
<br />
<br />WHEREAS, the City of Portsmouth desires to widen Scott Street; and
<br />
<br /> WHEREAS, Construction Associates, Incorporated will furnish the City of Portsmouth
<br />addit%onal land for the widening of Scott Street, provide a vegetative planting screen,
<br />and pay for all improvements should Race Street be closed.
<br />
<br /> NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED by the Council of the City of Portsmouth, Virginia,
<br />that the City Manager be and he hereby is authorized to execute an agreement as attached
<br />hereto with Construction Associates, Incorporated which will provide for the conveyance
<br />of the City's part of Race Street upon its closure as shown on the plat attached hereto."
