publicly with several citizens rezoning application Z-72-27. You will recall that your
referral was prompted by a disagreement among the three property owners party to the rezonin
drawn, but the Assistant City Attorney present said this was possible only for their t~ !
geographic components of the rezoning peti~iDn. The P~anning Commission resolved to approve
72-286 - The following letters received on Item 72-286 were read:

Rev. C. Charles Vache, President, Portsmouth Elderly Housing, Inc:

"I regret that ! will be out of town for the next couple of weeks during which some de-
cision may be made on the property on which the Portsmouth Elderly Housing, Inc. has bid.
In an attempt to summarize, I wish to make the following points for our cause:

Before incorporation or endeavoring to do anything, we attempted to ascertain
the availability of this piece of property and Were given every possible assur-
ance that it would be available to us. Other pieces of property which have
been mentioned are much less desirable for this purpose. The proximity of
graveyards, deteriating dwellings and fast, heavy through traffic on London
Boulevard make any site there less than desirable. The virtures of the present
proposed site have been enumerated several times, especially for housing for the
elderly.

Portsmouth Elderly Housing, Inc. has a six to eight months lead on any other
group in applying for 236 moderate income housing for the elderly. I am advised
that, presuming we can continue that advantage and have a structure built 6 to
8 months before any other group, that the City will benefit by $10,000 to $20,000
