It being a part of the:same property which was conveyed <br />to the City of Portsmouth by deed of The Most Reverend John J. Russell, <br />Roman Catholic Bishop of the Diocese of Richmond, Virginia, dated 17 <br />June 1971, recorded in the Clerk's Office of the Hustings Court of <br />the City of Portsmouth, Virginia, in Deed Book 575, page 329. <br /> <br />following described property owned by the United States of America: <br /> <br />All that certain piece or parcel of land in the City of Portsmouth, <br />Virginia, with buildings and improvements thereon, more particularly <br />bounded~, and described as follows: <br /> <br /> Beginning at a point on the South side of South Street one hundred <br /> $ and eighty feet East from the southeastern intersection of South and <br /> Middle Streets; thence South and parallel with Middle Street, two <br /> hundred and twenty-six feet to the North side of Bart Street; thence <br /> EasY,along North side of Bart Street one hundred and twenty-seven <br /> t feet, more or less, to the right of way of the Seaboard Air Line Rail- <br /> way; thence North easterly along the Northerly side of the Seaboard <br /> Air Line Railway one hundred and twenty-five feet, more or less, <br /> to the West side of Crawford Street; thence North along the West side <br /> of Crawford Street; one hundred and thirteen feet, more or less, to <br /> the Southwest iintersection of Crawford and South Streets; thence <br /> West along South side of South Street one hundred and eighty feet to <br /> the point of beginning, containing .918 acre, more or less, it being <br /> the same property acquired by the Government by Condemnation of 21 <br /> October 1941 in a case styled, "United States of America v. .918 Acre <br /> of land, more or less, situate.in Norfolk County, State of Virginia, <br /> and Leslie D. This has been approved by the Planning Commission." <br /> <br /> On motion of Mr. Johnson and seconded by Mr. Smith, th'e following r~solution was adopted <br />and by the following vote: <br /> <br />"RESOLUTION APPOINTING VIEWERS FOR CLOSING OF A SIXTEEN FOOT ALLEY BETWEEN <br />AND ADJACENT TO LOTS 1, 2, 3, 4, S, 6, ?, 28, 29, 30, 31, 32, 33 AND 34, <br />BLOCK 21, ON THE PLAT OF CHURCHLAND LAND COMPANY, WHICH PLAT IS DULY RECORDED <br />IN THE CLERK'S OFFICE OF THE CIRCUIT COURT OF THE CITY OF CHESAPEAKE, VIRGINIA, <br />IN MAP BOOK 18, AT PAGE 8S. <br /> <br /> WHEREAS, Tidewater Funeral Home, Inc., T/A Loving and Gay Funeral Home has made applica- <br />tion to vacate and close the hereinafter described portion of a certain alley and it appearinl <br />that notice of the application and request for the appointment of viewers was duly posted <br />on July 14, 1972, on the bulletin board of the Court'of Hustings for the City of Portsmouth, <br />on the bulletin board of the Circuit Court of the City of Portsmouth, and on the bulletin <br />board of the Municipal Court of the City of Portsmouth. <br /> <br /> NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED by the Council of the City of Portsmouth, Virginia, <br />that Frank N. Bilisoly, Louis J. Leitner, L. A. Clark, Zalmon I. Blachman and F. ~, Bergeron <br />be appointed viewers to view the hereinafter described portion of such alley and report <br />to this Council in writing whether in their opinion any, and if any, what inconvenience <br />would result from vacating and closing the following: <br /> <br />All that certain sixteen (16) foot strip of land situate in the City of <br />Portsmouth, Virginia, between and adjacent to Lots 1, 2, 3, 4, S, 6, 7, <br />22g, 29, 30, 31, 32, 33 and 34 Block 21, on the Plat of Churchland Land <br />Company, which plat is duly recorded in the Clemk's Office of the Circuit <br />Court of the City of Chesapeake, Virginia, in Map Book 18, at Page 85." <br /> <br />Ayes: Early, Holley, Johnson, King, Smith, Wentz, Barnes <br />Nays: None <br /> <br /> 72-301 "I recommend that the proper City officials be authorized to sign an agreement <br />with VEPCO which grants them an easement across certain City-owned property in Nansemond <br />County. <br /> <br /> This would allow VEPCO to construct, operate and maintain a pole ling across three <br />small pieces of property owned by the City in the Holy Neck Borough of Nansemond County." <br /> <br /> <br />
