July 25, 1972 <br /> <br /> 72-199 - The following letter received from City of Chesapeake, was read: <br /> "Attached are copies of resolutions adopted by the Council of the City of Chesapeake, <br />Virginia, at a regular meeting held on July 18th, 1972. <br /> <br /> We wo~ld earnestly solicit your support of the resolution pertaining to the Hodges Ferry <br />Bridge, and traffic lanes, for the safety and welfare of all citizens using this facility. <br /> The Council of the City of Chesapeake will be most grateful for your consideration in <br />these matters." <br /> <br />The following resolutionsattached: <br /> <br />"RESOLUTION REQUESTING THE STATE HIGHWAY DEPARTMENT TO PROVIDE FUNDS FOR CONSTRUCTION OF <br />ADDITIONAL TRAFFICf LANES ON THE CHURCHLAND BRIDGE <br /> <br /> WHEREAS the City fo Portsmouth adopted a resolution on May 23, 1972, requesting assistanc <br />from the State Highway Department for the purpose of improving the Churchland Bridge; and <br /> WHEREAS the Churchland Bridge is a vital transportation link to many citizens living in <br />the City of Chesapeake and the proposed improvements of the Churchland Bridge will contribute <br />greatly to the safety and convenience of Chesapeake citizens as well as the citizens of <br />Portsmouth. <br /> <br /> NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED by the Chesapeake City Council that the State Highw~ <br />is requested to react favorably to the request made by the City of Portsmouth for improvement <br />to the Churchland Bridge. <br /> <br />Adopted by the Council of the City of Chesapeake, Virginia, this 18th day of July, 1972. <br /> <br />APPROVED: <br /> <br />ATTEST: <br /> <br />W. Spence <br />Clerk of the Council" <br /> <br />"RESOLUTION REQUESTING THE STATE HIGHWAY DEPARTMENT TO PROGRAM FUNDS FOR IMRROVE- <br />MENTS TO THE HODGES FERRY BRIDGE <br /> <br /> WHEREAS, the Hodges <br />Branch of the Elizabeth <br />traffic; and <br /> <br />Ferry B~idge situate in the City of Chesapeake, traverses the Western <br />River and is inadequate in its present state to take care of current <br /> <br /> WHEREAS, the Hodges Ferry Bridge is a vital transportation link to many citizens living <br />in the City of Chesapeake, and improvements of said bridge will contribute greatly to the <br />safety and convenience of Chesapeake citizens as well as the citizens of Portsmouth. <br /> <br /> NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED by the Chesapeake City Council, that the State Highway <br />Department is requested to provide the necessary funds for the purpose of providing additiona <br />traffic lanes and other necessary improvements to the Hodges Ferry Bridge for the safety and <br />welfare of those citizens using this facility. <br /> <br />Adopted by the Council of the City of Chesapeake, Virginia, this 18th day of July, 1972. <br /> <br />APPROVED: <br /> <br />ATTEST: <br /> <br />W.
