August 22, 1972 <br /> <br /> NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED by the Council of the City of Portsmouth, Virginia, <br />that Frank N. Bilisoly, Louis J. Leitner, L. A. Clark, Zalmon I. Blachraan and F. J, Bergeron <br />be appointed viewers to view.the hereinafter described portion of such alley and report <br />to this Council in writing whether in their opinion any, and if any, what inconvenience <br />would result from vacating and closing the following: <br /> <br /> All that portion of a 10 foot alley located at the rear of the property <br />line of the property located on the east side of Evergreen Place, and <br />the property located on the west side of Roanoke Avenue, beginning at the <br />north side of Watts Avenue and running north a distance of approximately two <br />hundred fifty (250) feet." <br /> <br />Ayes: Early, Holley, Johnson, King, Smith, Wentz, Barnes <br />Nays: None <br /> <br /> 72-351 - "I submit the attached resolution and recommend its adoption. This authorizes <br />the sale of certain jib lots in the Northside Redevelopment area to the Portsmouth Redevelop- <br />ment and Housing Authority. <br /> <br /> These jib parcels of land are parts of properties, acquired by the City for construction <br />of London Boulevard, which are outside of the right-of-way. The Housing Authority will <br />incorporate them into the Northside Project to be sold for commercial or light industrial <br />use according to present zoning." <br /> . <br /> On motion of Mr. Smith and seconded by Mr. Early, the following resolution was adopted, <br />and by the following vote: <br /> <br />"A RESOLUTION AUTHORIZING THE CITY MANAGER TO SELL CITY~O~ED PROPERTY TO THE <br />PORTSMOUTH REDEVELOPMENT AND HOUSING AUTHORITY. <br /> <br /> }~EREAS, the City of Portsmouth is participating in the Northside Redevelopment Project <br />designated as Va. R39; and <br /> <br /> ~ERBAS, the City of Portsmouth desires to sell certain jib parcels of property acquired <br />for the right of way of London Boulevard to the Portsmouth Redevelopment and Housing Authorm~y <br />for incorporation in the Northside Project; and <br /> <br />WHEREAS, the City of Portsmouth has no need for the land. <br /> <br /> NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED by the Council of the City of Portsmouth, Virginia, <br />that the Ciiy Manager be, and he hereby is authorized to execute adeed to sell said land <br />to the Portsmouth Redevelopment and Housing Authority, as sho~m on the plats entitled <br />"Plat Showing Property To Be Acquired From City of Portsmouth,"~dated August ?, 1972, <br />prepared bY John Flora and Associates and "Plat Showing Survey of Porperty To Be Conveyed <br />To Portsmouth Redevelopment and Housing Authority, Portsmouth, Virginia," dated April <br />12, 1972, and prepared by Hassell and Folkes, Surveyors and Engineers, and attached hereto <br />and expressly made a part hereof." <br /> <br />Ayes: Early, Holley, Johnson, King, Smith, Wentz, Barnes <br />Nays: None <br /> <br /> 72-352 - "I submit the attached resolution and recommend its adoption. This is a <br />request to the Virginia Alcoholic Beverage Control Board to allow the sale of alcoholic <br />beverages in the City of Portsmouth until 2:00 a.m. Monday through Saturday during the <br />period of the year in which dayligh~ saving time is in effect. <br /> <br /> The sale of alcoholic beverages is authorized until 1:00 a.m. at the present time. <br />This one hour extension has been requested by local merchants so that their hours would <br />correspond with those in neighboring cities who have been allowed an extension." <br /> <br /> On motion of Mr. Smith and seconded by Mr. Johnson~ the following resolution was <br />adopted, and by the following vote: <br /> <br /> "A RESOLUTION REQUESTING THE VIRGINIA ALCOHOLIC BEVERAGE CONTROL BOARD TO <br /> ALLOW THE SALE OF ALCOHOLIC BEVERAGES IN THE CITY OF PORTSMOUTH UNTIL TWO <br /> A.M. MONDAY THROUGH SATURDAY DURING THE PERIOD OF DAYLIGHT SAVING TIME. <br /> <br /> WHEREAS, the sale of alcoholic beverages in the City of Portsmouth is now permitted <br />until One A.M. during the period of daylight saving time; and <br /> <br /> WHEREAS, the Council of the City of Portsmouth desires that the sale of such beverages <br />be allowed until Two A.M. on Monday through Saturday during the period of daylight saving <br />time. <br /> <br /> NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED by the Council of the City of Portsmouth, Virginia, <br />tha~ the Virginia Alcoholic Beverage ControlBoard he and hereby is strongly urged to <br />permit the sale of alcoholic beverages in the City of Portsmouth until~Two A.M. on Monday <br />through Saturday during the period of daylight saving time. <br /> <br /> BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, that the City Clerk be, and he hereby is, directed to forward <br />a copy of this resolution to the Virginia Alcoholic Beverage Control Board." <br /> <br />Ayes: Early, Holley, Johnson, King, Smith, Wentz, Barnes <br />Nays: None <br /> <br /> <br />
