<br /> 72-451 - "I submit the attached ordinance and recommend it be placed on first reading.
<br />This repeals Section 38-§.1 of the City Code which deals with the carrying of loaded
<br />firearms in public places. Section 38-1.1 is a new section dealing with the brandishing
<br />of firearms or objects similar in appearance. It makes it unlawful to brandish such
<br />£irearms to reasonably induce fear in the mind of another. This also provides that
<br />a police officer will not be civilly liable in making an arrest under the provisions of
<br />the ordinance.
<br />
<br /> Section 38-1 is amended to exempt law enforcement o£ficers from the.provisions of
<br />this section. It prohibits the discharge of firearms in the City. Sectzon 38-7 zs amended
<br />to include switchblade knives in the prohibition of the sale of weapons to minors.
<br />
<br /> This is a part of the City Attorney's program of updating the City Code."

<br />and S pertaining to trees and plants.

<br />36-9 and amending Sections 36-1, 2, 3, 4
<br />
<br /> Section 36-9 dealing with persons pouring salt water or injurious chemicals on highways
<br />so as to damage trees has been eliminated. This has been included in Section 35-2. The
<br />Director of Public Works has been removed and theDirector of Parks inserted as having
<br />the responsibility of enforcement o£ this section o£ the Code.

<br />through 5, sub,oct Trees, of the City Code, Agenda number 722452 be deferred until the next
<br />City Council meeting.
<br />
<br /> It appears that this ordinance was updated as a result of a meeting between City Manage
<br />Johnson, myself and several neighbors on Sept. 29, 1972. We are waiting for a reply from
<br />Mr. Johnson in answer to several suggestions pertaining to trees on city property we made
<br />at this meeting. He promised us an answer in thirty days.
<br />
<br /> If there are any .questions~to be asked by any member of Council, or if there is any
<br />reason that this ordinance will not be delayed, I would like to speak before Council.'
