January 9, 1973 <br /> <br /> NOW, THEREFORE, Be it resolved by the Council of the City of Portsmouth, Virginia~ <br />that it strongly urges that the State Highway Department adohr the westernmost alternative <br />route for the Interstate 664 Crossing of Hampton Roads between Newport News and the Bowers <br />Hill-Belleville Connector in the City of Nansemond, such route as more accurately shown <br />on that plat entitled "Route 1 Segment Combinations". as attached hereto and made a part <br />hereof. <br /> <br /> BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED by the Council of the City of Portsmouth. Virginia. that a copy <br />of this resolution be sent to the State Highway Department and be presented at the afore- <br />mentioned public hearing." <br /> <br />Ayes: Early, Holley. Johnson. Barnes <br />Nays: None <br /> <br /> 75-4 - "I submit the attached ordinance and recommend it be placed On'first reading. <br />This appropriates $280.000 from the Capital Improvement Fund for the purchase of 5S school <br />buses. <br /> <br /> Under the Permanent Plan filed with the Federal Court in August. 1972, the School Board <br />would transport, on division-owned buses all eligible elementary, junior high and special <br />center students. These funds will be used to purchase the additional buses required under <br />this plan. <br /> <br /> The School Board's Transportation Committee Report was presented to the Municipal FinanCe <br />Commission in November of 1972. At their regular scheduled meeting in December, the Finance <br />Commission recommended that capital funds in the amount of $280.000 be provided for purchase <br />of the additional buses. A copy of this recommendation is attached for your information." <br /> following <br /> Motion of Mr. Smith and seconded by Mr. Early, that the/ordinance be ~p~e~ed~:O~:~first <br />reading, incorporating the recommendation of Finance Commission and copy of recommendation <br />of Finance Commission be forwarded to School Board, and the appropriation be based on the <br />recommendation of the Finance Commission, was adopted by the following vote: <br /> <br />"AN ORDINANCE TO APPROPRIATE $280,000 FROM THE GENERAL CAPITAL IMPROVEMENT <br />FUND FOR THE PURCHASE OF SCHOOL BUSES." <br /> <br />Ayes: Early, Holley, King, Smith, Wentz, Barnes <br />Nays: Johnson <br /> <br /> 75-5 - "I submit the attached ordinance and recommend it be placed on first reading. <br />This appropriates $15,000 from the Capital Improvement Fund for improvements of intersection <br />at Airline Boulevard and Hodges Ferry Road. <br /> <br /> The improvements are needed to allow better and safer movement of traffic through this <br />poorly designed intersection as traffic mounts due to development of Hattonsville corridor. <br /> <br /> This capital project is included in our Capital Improvements Budget for 1972-75 and <br />page 7-6 of this plan xs attached for your information." <br /> <br />on <br /> <br /> On motion of Mr. Johnson and seconded by Mr. Smith, the following ordinance was approved <br />first reading, and by the following vote: <br /> <br /> "AN ORDINANCE TO APPRS~ATE $15,000.00 FROM THE GENERAL CAPITAL IMPROVEMENT <br /> FUND FOR INTERSECTION IMPROVEMENTS FOR THE INTERSECTION OF HODGES FERRY ROAD <br /> AND AIRLINE BOULEVARD," <br /> <br />Ayes: Early, Holley, Johnson, King, Smith, Wentz. Barnes <br />Nays: None <br /> <br /> 7~-~ - "I submit the attached ordinance and recommend it be placed on first reading. <br />This appropriates $24,000 from the Capital Improvement Fund for furnishings for the building <br />at 700 North Street. formerly Police Headquarters. which was renovated for use by the Social <br />Services Department. <br /> <br /> The funds used to purchase the furnishings will be reimbursed to the City at the rate <br />of 10% per year for the next ten years. The reimbursement is paid monthly to the City as <br />part of the total rent for the building.
