January 9, 1973 NOW, THEREFORE, Be it resolved by the Council of the City of Portsmouth, Virginia~ that it strongly urges that the State Highway Department adohr the westernmost alternative route for the Interstate 664 Crossing of Hampton Roads between Newport News and the Bowers Hill-Belleville Connector in the City of Nansemond, such route as more accurately shown on that plat entitled "Route 1 Segment Combinations". as attached hereto and made a part hereof. BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED by the Council of the City of Portsmouth. Virginia. that a copy of this resolution be sent to the State Highway Department and be presented at the afore- mentioned public hearing." Ayes: Early, Holley. Johnson. Kin~,~Smith, ~emtz. Barnes Nays: None 75-4 - "I submit the attached ordinance and recommend it be placed On'first reading. This appropriates $280.000 from the Capital Improvement Fund for the purchase of 5S school buses. Under the Permanent Plan filed with the Federal Court in August. 1972, the School Board would transport, on division-owned buses all eligible elementary, junior high and special center students. These funds will be used to purchase the additional buses required under this plan. The School Board's Transportation Committee Report was presented to the Municipal FinanCe Commission in November of 1972. At their regular scheduled meeting in December, the Finance Commission recommended that capital funds in the amount of $280.000 be provided for purchase of the additional buses. A copy of this recommendation is attached for your information." following Motion of Mr. Smith and seconded by Mr. Early, that the/ordinance be ~p~e~ed~:O~:~first reading, incorporating the recommendation of Finance Commission and copy of recommendation of Finance Commission be forwarded to School Board, and the appropriation be based on the recommendation of the Finance Commission, was adopted by the following vote: "AN ORDINANCE TO APPROPRIATE $280,000 FROM THE GENERAL CAPITAL IMPROVEMENT FUND FOR THE PURCHASE OF SCHOOL BUSES." Ayes: Early, Holley, King, Smith, Wentz, Barnes Nays: Johnson 75-5 - "I submit the attached ordinance and recommend it be placed on first reading. This appropriates $15,000 from the Capital Improvement Fund for improvements of intersection at Airline Boulevard and Hodges Ferry Road. The improvements are needed to allow better and safer movement of traffic through this poorly designed intersection as traffic mounts due to development of Hattonsville corridor. This capital project is included in our Capital Improvements Budget for 1972-75 and page 7-6 of this plan xs attached for your information." on On motion of Mr. Johnson and seconded by Mr. Smith, the following ordinance was approved first reading, and by the following vote: "AN ORDINANCE TO APPRS~ATE $15,000.00 FROM THE GENERAL CAPITAL IMPROVEMENT FUND FOR INTERSECTION IMPROVEMENTS FOR THE INTERSECTION OF HODGES FERRY ROAD AND AIRLINE BOULEVARD," Ayes: Early, Holley, Johnson, King, Smith, Wentz. Barnes Nays: None 7~-~ - "I submit the attached ordinance and recommend it be placed on first reading. This appropriates $24,000 from the Capital Improvement Fund for furnishings for the building at 700 North Street. formerly Police Headquarters. which was renovated for use by the Social Services Department. The funds used to purchase the furnishings will be reimbursed to the City at the rate of 10% per year for the next ten years. The reimbursement is paid monthly to the City as part of the total rent for the building. The amount does not exceed the total participation, costs set by the State and Federal Government for renovation and furnishings for use by Social Services." This appropriates $9,600 from the Capital Improvement Fund for alterations in the Municipal Building and Juvenile Court in the Civic Center. "AN ORDINANCE TO APPROPRIATE $24,000.00 FROM THE GENERAL CAPITAL IMPROVEMENT FUND FOR THE PURCHASE OF FU~NITdRE FOR THE RENOVATED SOCIAL SERVICES HEAD- QUARTERS AT 700 NORTH STREET."
