Y3-192 - "I submit the attached ordinance and recommend it be placed on first
reading. This appropriates $140,750 to'rehabilitate the incinerator furnaces.

The incinerator was completed in 1962 and there have been no repairs to the furnaces
since then. The refractory tile has deteriorated tO a~dangerous level:and requires
major repairs. In the areas of the combustion-chambers, spray water chambers and
stack flues, the tile is worn' 3" to 3½" off'the original tile resulting in a 50% loss
of heat reflection. In addition, several of the-ref~actoryexpansion joints have disinte-
grated, allowing the refractory tile walls to sag do~mward leaving open gaps in the
walls. This could destroy the steel refractory castings and the structural steel frame
of the incinerator if-not repaired.

Bids were receiVed on May 4, 1973i for this work as follows:
This will allow the contractor approximately three months to assemble the necessary
material. The scheduling ~ill also allow the shutting do~ra of one furnace, at a time
and not interrupt the operation-of the incinerator.
