This requests <br />the State Highway Department to conduct preliminary engineering studies concerning that <br />portion of the Western Freeway (Route 164) from Bayview Boulevard to Harbor Drive. <br /> <br /> The State Highway Department is in the process of planning for a parallel tube <br />at the Midtown Tunnel. ~hen the additional tunnel is constructed, it will be important <br />to have the section of highway, between the tunnel and the new West Norfolk Bridge construcl <br />at the same time. <br /> <br /> This resolution commits the City to 159 of the cost of the preliminary engineering <br />studies." <br /> <br /> On motion of Mr. Smith and seconded by Mr~ King, the following resolution was adopted <br />and by the following vote: <br /> <br />"A RESOLUTION REQUESTING THE STATE HIGHWAY DEPARTMENT TO COMMENCE PRELIMINARY <br />ENGINEERING STUDIES CONCERNING THAT PORTION OF THE WESTERN FREEWAY (RT. 164) <br />FROM BAYVIEW BOULEVARD TO HARBOR DRIVE. <br /> <br /> WHEREAS, it is the sense of the Council of the City of Portsmouth, Virginia, that <br />the construction of the Western Freeway and particularly that portion from Bayview Bouleva~ <br />to Harbor Drive would be of great benefit to the citizens of Portsmouth; and <br /> <br /> ~HEREAS, preliminary engineering studies are required in order to commence such <br />project. <br /> <br /> NOW, THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED by the Council of the City of Portsmouth, Virginia, <br />that it hereby requests the State Highway Department to commence preliminary engineering <br />studies concerning that portion of the:Western Freeway (Rt. 164) proposed for construction <br />from Bayview Boulevard to Harbor Drive. <br /> <br /> BE IT. FURTHER RESOLVED that the City of Portsmouth shall pay fifteen percent (15%) <br />of the costs of such preliminary engineering studies." <br /> <br />Ayes: Holley, King, Smith, Wentz, Barnes <br />Nays: None <br /> <br /> 73-326 - "I submit the attached agreement and recommend the proper City officials <br />be authorized to sign. This approves a contract with the Portsmouth Ambulance Service, <br />Inc. to provide ambulance service in the City of Portsmouth. <br /> <br /> The contract provides a subsidiary of $4,000 per month through December, 1973. <br />This will assure ambulance service until the City can advertise a contract for bid and <br />the awarding of a new contract to be.effective January 1,.1974." <br /> <br /> Motion of Mr. King and secondedbby Mr. Smith, that the proper City officials be <br />authorized to sign, was adopted by unanimous vote; <br /> <br /> 73~327 - ~'I submit the attached~letter~from the Parks.and~.Recreation Commission. <br />This is for the information of the City Council.'~(Tot Lots-Churchland Area) <br /> <br /> Motion of Mr. Wentz and seconded by Mr. Smith, to be received~as information~and <br />refer to the School Board for consideration, was adopted by unanimous vote. <br /> <br /> 73-328 "I am in receipt of a letter from the Tall Cedars Hearing Clinic, Inc. <br />requesting'.a, bingo permit, ti:recommend the permit be granted~" _ <br /> <br /> Motion of Mr. King and seconded by Mr. Smith~ to concur with the recommendation <br />the City Manager, was adopted by unanimous vote. <br /> <br />of <br /> <br /> 73-329 "I submit the attached <br />rebate be granted. <br /> <br /> Motion of Mr. King and seconded <br />rebate Norris Construction Co., Inc. <br /> <br />Ayes: King, Smith, <br />Nays: Holley <br /> <br />letter from the City Assessor. One bid was received from Aldo Construction Corporation in the amount of_$21,117.70 <br />The bid comparing favorably with the Engineering Department's estimate, I recommend <br />the contract be awarded this firm. <br /> <br /> This project is being financed by a Federal grant received under the Highway Safety <br />Program. . : ..... : .......... <br /> <br /> <br />
