O c_t~o b e r 22~_~1_974 <br /> <br />NEW BUSINESS - <br /> <br /> 74-449 Motion of Mr. Wentz and seconded by Mr. Holtey, to go into the election of <br />members to Boards and Commissions, was adopted by unanimous vote. <br /> <br />Mr. Wentz nominated the following members to the following Boards and Commissions: <br /> <br /> Board of Adjustments and Appeals <br /> <br /> C. Paul Hanbury to be reappointed <br />Mi=hael J. Service to be appointed for <br /> <br />for a four year term, expiring September 1, 1978; <br />a four year term, expiring September 1, 1978. <br /> <br />Board of Electrical Examiners <br /> <br />Donald O. Hawkins to be reappointed for a four year term, expiring March 1, 1978. <br /> <br /> Highway Safety Commission <br /> <br /> Judge Gordon F. Marsh and Archie <br />expiring November 1, 1977. <br /> <br />Elliott, Jr. to be appointed for a three year term, <br /> <br />Law Library Board <br /> <br />Arnold H. Leon to be appointed for a four year term, expiring November 1, 1978. <br /> <br /> Museum and Fine Arts Commission <br /> <br /> Ms. Helen W. Mervim to be appointed for a three year term, expiring November 1, 1977 <br />Richard A. Rivin to fill an unexpired term, expiring November 1, 1975. <br /> <br /> Supplemental Retirement Board <br /> <br /> G. Eugene Williams, Jr. to be appointed <br />1978. <br /> <br />for a four year term, expiring October 1, <br /> <br /> Tidewater Regional Health Planning Council <br /> <br /> John H. Carey for nomination to the TRHPC to <br />1975. <br /> <br />fill an unexpired <br /> <br />term,expiring May 31, <br /> <br />Tidewater Cc mmunity College Board <br /> <br /> Harvey N. Johnson, Jr. for nomination to the TCC to replace rhomas R. Dail, with <br />term expiring July 1, 1975. <br /> <br /> Motion of Mr. Elliott and seconded by Mr. Oast, that nominations be closed on the <br />Board of Adjustments and Appeals, Board of Electricml Examiners, Highway. Safety Commissio~ <br />Law Library Board, Museum and Fine Arts Commission, Supplemental Retirement Board, Tide- <br />water Regional Health Planning Council and Tidewater Community College, and all members <br />appointed/nominated to said boards and commissions were elected by unanimous vote. <br /> <br /> 74-450 - Motion of Mr. Elliott and seconded by ~4r. Early that the City Manager be <br />Southeastern Virginia Planning District Commission Notifi- <br />or Accept Assistance Review System for No-n-State Funding, <br /> <br />Form A-9S, for review, was adopted by unanimous vote. <br /> <br /> 74-452 The following letter from William E. George, President, Fraternal Order of <br />Police, Gosport Lodge No. 20, was presented: <br /> <br /> "It is the unanimous request of the membership of Gosport Lodge #20, Fraternal <br />Order of Police, that Section 2-8 of the Portsmouth City Code pertaining to Residence <br />requirements for Personnel, be immediately rescinded. <br /> <br /> It is the concensus of the membership that the law as it stands is discriminatory <br />and therefore unconstitutional in thee certain employees of the city are exempt whereas <br />police and fire personnel are not. The City Manager has gone on record as saying that <br />he will recommend to the Council that the law be rescinded next July, that being the case <br />why should a police officer who woutd, iike to move to a neighboring city have to wait som, <br />nine months.
