<br />NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED T}~T:
<br />
<br /> 1. City Council will acknowledge the existence of a critical shortage in vital
<br />services and materials in Tidewater, especially for individuals who are elderly,
<br />handicapped, poor and others on fixed income, and, be further resolved that;
<br />
<br /> 2. City Council recognize a need for the establishment of a centralized system
<br />through which to pull together all possible emergency resources and through which to
<br />help the citizen zn a crisis situation with these resources in an expedient manner,
<br />and, be it resolved that;
<br />
<br /> 5. City Council endorse the efforts of the Southeastern Tidewater Economic Action
<br />Workshop, comprising representatives of various governmental agencies, community-oriented
<br />groups, religious organizations and citizens group, to provide emergency assistance to
<br />citizens in need, during the winter months of December, 1974, through January, February,
<br />March and April, 197S, and, be it resolved that;
<br />
<br /> 4. City Council support the establishment of an Emergency Economic Crisis Center,
<br />to be coordinated by the STOP Organization for handling emergency crises in housing, food,
<br />clothing, transportation, fuel, and adequate home equipment through a pooling of resources,
<br />information and outreach during the months of December, 1974, January, February, March
<br />and April, 19~S, or for as long as the previously described crisis situation exists
<br />and, be it ~e'solved that; '
<br />
<br /> S. City Council Will join with the Emergency Economic Crisis Center to seek the
<br />cooperation of those agencies that terminate vital services, such as electricity, gas,
<br />telephone, water, and housing, on weekends, and urge a conscientious review of individual
<br />situations prior to termination, and, be it resolved that;
<br />
<br /> 6. City Council will move with all possible haste in adopting this resolution which
<br />is intended to address the crisis situation.
