Now, the School Board is proposing to enlarge this school <br /> and has secured City Council approval. The Beazley Foundation is willing to donate <br /> needed land in return for relocation of its dwellings. Proposal to move two dwellings <br /> from Independence Street to a school site off Gygax Avenue behind the little shopping <br /> center and Baptist Church on Elliott Avenue. <br /> <br /> ~he Portsmouth School Board determined that the 31 acre Adademy Park Elementary School <br />site is more than adequate to meet its needs and minimum standards prescribed by the State <br />Board of Ed~eation. Therefore, it authorized a transfer of property to the Beazley Foundatioz <br />On this land would be relocated the two dwellings from Independence Street. The City Plann- <br />ing Commission authorized the Director to execute a subdivision plat for the transfer of this <br />property from the School Board to the Beazley Foundation. A copy of the plat is on file. <br /> <br /> The Planning Commission resolved to recommend that the Group Housing Project for <br />ACADEMY PARK be amended to authorize the relocation of the two dwellings shown on the sub- <br />division~lat. Raeford Eure." <br /> <br />Ayes: Barnes, Early, Elliott, Holley, Oast Wentz, Davis <br />Nays: None ' <br /> <br /> 75-75 <br /> <br /> "At its <br />petitien: <br /> <br />The following letter from Director of Planning was presented: <br />regular monthly meeting, the City Planning Commission considered <br /> <br />the following <br /> <br /> S-75-1: UNNAMED STREET, 16' right-of-way extending north from Airline Boulevard for <br /> approximately 562'; Norfolk Coca-Cola Bottling Works by Attorney Eugene White. <br /> <br /> The Commission resolved to recommend approval of the request for a distance of approxi- <br />mately 412 feet beginning at a point in this paper street 1S0 feet from its intersection with <br />the right-of-way of Airline Boulevard. The lg0 feet not included in the Commission's recom- <br />mendation falls within the proposed right-of-way of a Victory Boulevard extension west and <br />north to Portsmouth Boulevard (on the projected centerline of California Avenue). This pro- <br />ppsal to extend Victory Boulevard is an approved element of the SoUtheastern Virginia Regiona] <br />Transportation Plan and is found in the approved Capital Improvements Program of 1972. Our <br />Engineering Department has worked closely with the Virginia Department of Highways and Trans- <br />portation in perfecting p~eliminary plans. The applicant, through his attorney, agreed that <br />the Planning.Commission,s alternaiive was reasonable and acceptable~ The Planning Commission <br />furtherstmpulated' that when Victory Boulevard plans are final, any residue of this 16 foot <br />paper street within the reserved 1S0 feet would be the subject of a further street closure <br />application to be initiated by the Director of City Planning." <br /> <br />th <br /> <br /> <br />
