<br /> "A RESOLUTION ADOPTING THE CITY OP PORTSMOUTH EMERGENCY OPERATIONS PLAN.
<br /> WHEREAS, it is necessary for the City of Portsmouth, in the event of a disaster or
<br />emergency, to be prepared to deal with health and welfare needs of its citizens.
<br />
<br /> NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED by the Council of the City of Portsmouth, Virginia,
<br />that it does adopt the City of Portsmouth Emergency Operations Plan attached hereto
<br />and made a part hereof."

<br /> Ayes: Barnes, Early, Elliott, Holley, Oast, Wentz
<br /> Nays: None
<br />
<br /> 75-285 - "Consideration of a resolution authorizing the acceptance of conveyance of a
<br />right-of-entry to the City of Portsmouth by the Portsmouth Redevelopment and Housing
<br />authority.
<br />
<br /> Right-of-entry is required in order that construction may ~roceed for the parking lot
<br />in the Olde Towne Conservation Project. The Housing Authority ~s unable to convey good
<br />title to this parce; therefore, a right-of-entry is required. The City Manager recommends
<br />adoption."

<br /> On motion of Mr. Early and seconded by Mr. Elliott, the following resolution was
<br />adopted, and by the following vote:

<br /> TO PARCEL 2, BLOCK 5, IN THE OLDE TO~qE CONSERVATION PROJECT VA. R-49 TO THE
<br /> CITY OP PORTSMOUTH BY PORTSMOUTH REDEVELOPmeNT AND HOUSING AUTHORITY.

<br /> ~BRBAS, it is necessary for this right of entry to be granted to allow construction
<br />of a parking lot.
<br />
<br /> NOW, T~RBFORE, BE IT RESOLVED by the Council of the City of Portsmouth, Virginia,
<br />that the City Manager is authorized to accept a conveyance of a right of entry to Parcel
<br />2, Block 3, in the Olde Towne Conservation Project Va. R-49 to the City of Portsmouth
<br />by Portsmouth Redevelopment and Housing Authority."

<br /> 75-284 - "Consideration of a resolution urging the name of the Naval Shipyard be
<br /> changed to the Pomtsmouth, Virginia, Naval Shipyard.
<br />
<br /> The City Attorney was directed by the Council on June 24, 1975,.to draf[ a resolution
<br />urging that the Naval Shipyard be renamed the Portsmouth,~Vi~inia~
<br />Mmnage~ ~ecpmm~s~adoption.''

<br /> Robert A. Jones, President, Portsmouth/C~esapeake Board of Realtors, Inc., spoke and
<br /> presented the following resolution:
<br />
<br /> "Whereas, the Portsmouth City Council~through the efforts of Mayor Richard J. Davis
<br /> and Councilman James W. Holley, III has initiated an effort to change ~he name of the Norfolk
<br /> Naval Shipyard to the Portsmouth Haval Shipyard.
<br />
<br /> ~ereas, the Norfolk Naval Shipyard is located wholly in Portsmouth, Virginia, while
<br /> the Portsmouth Naval Shipyard is~located wholly at Kittery, Maine.
<br />
<br /> the Norfolk Naval Shipyard has twice the work force as the Portsmouth Naval
<br />
<br /> Whereas,
<br />Shipyard.
<br />
<br /> W~ereas,
<br /> Whereas,
<br />
<br />the Norfolk Naval Shipyard has out-performed the Portsmouth Naval Shipyard.
<br />
<br /> the Norfolk Naval Shipyard is one of the city of Portsmouth's largest employers
<br />and it's citizens are proud to have the shipyard located in its city.
<br />
<br /> Resolved that the P6rtsmouth/Chesapeake Board of Realtors, Inc. endorsetthe efforts
<br />of the city council and Dr. James W. Holley to change the name of the Norfolk Naval Shipyard
<br />to the Portsmouth Naval Shipyard and that a copy of this resolution be spread to Senator
<br />Harry F. Byrd, Senator William F. Scott, Congressman~R~]~t~W¥--D~i'~l~lA{aYor Richard J. Davis
<br />of Portsmouth and the local news media.
<br />
<br />Done at Portsmouth, Virginia this 3rd day of July, 1975."

<br /> On motion of Mr. Holley and seconded by Mr. Elliott, to delete Virginia, the
<br />resolution was adopted, and by the following vote:

<br />"A RESOLUTION URGING THE NAME OF THE NAVAL SHIPYARD SITUATE IN THE CITY OF
<br />PORTSMOUTH, VIRGINIA, BE CHANGED TO THE PORTSMOUTH NAVAL SHIPYARD.
<br />
<br /> WHEREAS, situate within the~City of Portsmouth, Virginia, is a Naval Shipyard
<br />whose long and cherished traditions have been an integral part of the history of the
<br />City of Portsmouth since 1767 when Andrew Sprowle established the Gosport Shipyard;
<br />and
<br />
<br />following

<br /> WHEREAS, such Naval Shipyard has been a strategic facility in the defense of the
<br />United States of America from the Revolutionary War to the present; and
