75-508 - The following letter received from Director of Planning was Fresented:
"Culminating several months of research, the City Planning Commission at its regular
monthly meeting on November 4, 1975 resolved to recommend that the Des Mcines Avenue Fire
Station at 1806 Des Moines Avenue be decla~klsurplus and disposed of by the City of Portsmoutt
at public auction.
The Commission found no interes% among municipal departments for making use of the aban-
doned fire station. The Commission noted that the structure is in a state of disrepair and
did not feel it prudent to offer such on a lease basis. The Commission during its October
7th monthly meeting received neighborhood views on the need for more services which might be
dispensed from a facility such as this structure. However, the Commission concluded that this
Residential R-60 site is un~sr sufficient general restrictions and could be acquired by some
organization from the city and subsnquently utilized for purposes suitable to those resident
in the Pre~is Park Neighbcrhood."
Motion of Mr. Holley and seconded by Mr. £11iott, to concur in the recommendation of
the Planning Commission and b~edeclared surplus, was adopted by unanimeus vote.
"At its regular monthly meeting on November 4, 1975, this Commission considered the
matter of four Planned Unit Development applications approved in 1972 and 1973. Our declining
National economy has obviously had an adverse effect on these projects. Lack of PUD progress
is in keeping with a decline of housing construction in which Portsmouth may experience a net
loss of dwelling units during 1975.
On September 2nd, Attorney Benjamin J. Levy appeared before this Commission and stated
that PUD-73-1 BALLARD PLANNED UNIT DEVELOPMENT was being abandoned by.,its owners~ With the
