75-60 Zoning Ordinance Amendments Cradock Historic Districts,
Hearing on February 10, 1975~
The following letter from the Director of Planning was presented:

deferred from a Public

"City Attorney Tayloe rquested written comment on a package of zoning ordinance amend-
ments being placed before you this evening.

All of these proposals were developed by the City Planning Commission and forwarded
to you for consideration during 1975. On February 10, June 6 and December 8, you conducted
formal public hearings on Planning Commission proposals as required by State law. Your com-
ments and questions were relayed to the Planning Commission and Commission of Architectural
Review in their continuing studies of how zoning regulations might properly be applied to the
portion of Cradock listed on the National Register of Historic Places. At the staff level,
my office remained in touch with the Department of Law to which you referred all of the
matters publicly heard. At no time during 1975 did we encounter any opposition to any of
the Zoning Ordinance revisio~ proposals; however, there were several questions, a few comments
and some suggestions. It is my opinion that local~idents affected, as represented by the
Cradock Property Owners Association, the City P~anning Commission, the Commission of Architec-
tural Review, the Law Department, the Department of Inspection and the Office of City Plannin
are now all in accord on what has been placed before you this evening.

One ordinance creates a Cradock Historic District, a parallel to the Olde Towne Historic
District. Another creates a ~radock Historic Residential Sub-district with R-75 uses and
dimensions. Another creates a Cradock Historic Limited Business Sub-district with C-t uses
and dimensions. Certain actions relative to exterior appearance are authorized; others would
be subject to issuance of a certificate of appropriateness by the Secretary of The Commission
of Architectural Review; and others would require action by the Commission of Architectural
Review. Thus, this represents a far less complex program than in Olde Towne, involved as it
is in urban renewal.
