<br /> The following letter received from Mrs. Lorene R. Majette, Secretary, Churchland Chapter
<br />No. 1293, National Association Retired Federal Employees, was presented:

<br /> "The members of Churchland Chapter No. 1293 National Association Retired Federal Bmploye(
<br />voted at their last meeting to write a letter to the Portsmouth City Council opposing any
<br />increase in taxes, water rates and sewage disposal.
<br />
<br /> Our members are on fixed income and any increase in the above would work a hardship on
<br />the members.

<br /> TEe following reports from the City Manager were present~d:

<br /> 76-193 "Consideration of an ordinance to amend the City Code pertaining
<br />sewer service.
<br />
<br />to charges for
<br />
<br /> This ordinance amends the sewer service charge from 20~ to 24¢ per 100 cubic feet and
<br />increases the sewage treatmant charge from 38~ to 45~ per 100 cubic feet. The charge for
<br />sewage treatment to customers in the Tidewater area in the western part of the City of Ports-
<br />mouth ~s currently 45e per 100 cubic feet. This amendment will bring Portsmouth's sewage
<br />treatment charges in line with Hampton Roads Sanitation District rates and provide a uniform
<br />rate for the entire city for the first time since the 1968 annexation. There is no change in
<br />the minimum charge for sewer service and sewage treatment charges. These charges will remain
<br />at $1.00 per month and ~1.50 per month, respecively. The City Manager recommends adoption."

<br />first and final reading,and by the following vote:

<br />TO WATER METER RATES AND CHARGES FOR SEWER SERVICE."
