355 <br /> <br />May 25, 1976 <br /> <br />- UNFINISHED BUSINESS <br /> <br /> 76-182 - The following ordinance approved on first reading at the regular meeting of <br />May ll, 1976, was taken up and read: <br /> <br />"AN ORDINANCE TO APPROPRIATE FUNDS NECESSARY FOR OPERATION OF THE CITY <br />GOVERNMENT FOR AND DURING THE FISCAL YEAR BEGINNING JULY !, 1976 AND <br />ENDING JUNE 30, 1977." <br /> <br /> The following letter received from Mrs. Lorene R. Majette, Secretary, Churchland Chapter <br />No. 1293, National Association Retired Federal Employees, was presented: <br /> <br /> "The members of Churchland Chapter No. 1293 National Association Retired Federal Bmploye( <br />voted at their last meeting to write a letter to the Portsmouth City Council opposing any <br />increase in taxes, water rates and sewage disposal. <br /> <br /> Our members are on fixed income and any increase in the above would work a hardship on <br />the members. <br /> <br /> Would appreciate you having this <br /> <br /> Motion of Mr. Early and seconded <br />by unanimous vote. <br /> <br />letter read at the next council meeting." <br /> <br />by Mr. Barnes, to be received as information, was adopted <br /> <br /> George R. None <br /> See Page 360 - Motion <br /> 76-1~3 The following ordinance approved on first reading at the regular meeting of <br />May 11, 1976, was taken up and readr <br /> <br />'AN ORDINANCE TO APPROPRIATE $20,131 FROM THE FEDERAL GRANTS FUND FOR (1) A <br />NEW TWELVE MONTH PORTSMOUTH POLI~E ANTI-RAPE SQUAD PROGRAM; (2) A SUiv[MBR LAW <br />INTERN PROGRAM AND TO PURCHASE WORD PRO~BSSING EQUIPMENT FOR THE COMMONWEALTH <br />ATTORNEY'S OFFICE. <br /> <br /> On motion of Mr. Oast and seconded by Mr. Barnes, the ordinance was adopted, and by the <br />~ollowing vote: <br /> <br />Ayes: Barnes, Early, Blliott, Holley, Oast, Wentz <br />Nays: None <br /> <br /> 76-184 - The ~o~l&wing ordinance approved on first reading at the regular meeting of <br />May 11, 1976, was~'~.aken up and read: <br /> <br />"AN ORDINANCE TO APPROPRIATE ~10,000 FROM THE CAPITAL IMPROVEMENT FUND FOR <br />ENGINEERING AND DESIGN COSTS OF THE WEST NORFOLK ROAD AND CEDAR LANE INTER- <br />SECTION IMPROVemENTS." <br /> <br /> On motionof Mr. Early and seconded by Mr. Oast, the ordinance was adopted, and by the <br />following vote: <br /> <br />Ayes: Barnes, Early, Elliott, Holley, Oast, Wentz <br />Nays: None <br /> <br /> TEe following reports from the City Manager were present~d: <br /> <br /> 76-193 "Consideration of an ordinance to amend the City Code pertaining <br />sewer service. <br /> <br />to charges for <br /> <br /> This ordinance amends the sewer service charge from 20~ to 24¢ per 100 cubic feet and <br />increases the sewage treatmant charge from 38~ to 45~ per 100 cubic feet. The charge for <br />sewage treatment to customers in the Tidewater area in the western part of the City of Ports- <br />mouth ~s currently 45e per 100 cubic feet. This amendment will bring Portsmouth's sewage <br />treatment charges in line with Hampton Roads Sanitation District rates and provide a uniform <br />rate for the entire city for the first time since the 1968 annexation. There is no change in <br />the minimum charge for sewer service and sewage treatment charges. These charges will remain <br />at $1.00 per month and ~1.50 per month, respecively. The City Manager recommends adoption." <br /> <br /> On motion of Mr. Oast an8 seconded by Mr. Early, the following ordinance was adopted on <br />first and final reading,and by the following vote: <br /> <br />"AN ORDINANCE TO A/vlBND THE CODE OF THE CITY OF PORTSMOUTH, VIRGINIA, 1973, <br />BY AMENDING_~SECTIONS 38-77[a),(b), AND (g) AND SECTION 38-33, PERTAINING <br />TO WATER METER RATES AND CHARGES FOR SEWER SERVICE." <br /> <br />Ayes: Barnes, Early, Elliott, Holley, Oast, Wentz <br />Nays: None <br /> <br /> <br />
