5O <br /> <br />September 28, 1976 <br /> <br /> 76-400 - "Consideration of a resolution designating the park at the corner of Crawford <br />Parkway and Glasgow Street as Lafayette Park. ~ <br /> The Portsmouth'American Revolution Bicentennial Commission has designated the arch <br />located in this park as the Lafayette Arch; and, respectfully requests that the City Council <br />designate the park as Lafayette Park. A copy of the letter from the Chairman of the Ports- <br />mouth American Revolution Bicentennial Commission is attached for your information. The <br />City Manager recommends adoption." <br /> <br /> On motiQn of Mr. Oast and seconded by Mr. Barnes, the following resolution was adopted, <br />and by the following vote: <br /> <br /> "A RESOLUTION DESIGNATING A PARK AT THE CORNER OF CRAWFORD STREETAND GLASGOW <br /> STREET TO BE KNOW~ AS LAFAYETTE PARK. <br /> <br /> WHEREAS, the Portsmouth, Virginia, American Revolution Bicentennial Commission has named <br />the arch located at the park at the corner of Crawford Street and Glasgow Street, to be the <br />Lafayette Arch; and <br /> <br /> WHEREAS, such arch commemorates~nipartlithe visit of the Marquise de Lafayette to <br />Portsmouth in 1824, at which time the original Arch was erected; and <br /> <br /> WHEREAS, such arch commemorat~S~i~:~"All Who Have Lived Or Died For Freedom"; and <br /> <br /> WHEREAS, the dedication of the arch and park will be conducted on October 9, 1976 with <br />a representative of the Erench Embassy in attendance. <br /> <br /> NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED by the Council of the City of Portsmouth, Virginia, that <br />the Park located on the corner of Crawford Street and Glasgow Street is designated as the <br />"Lafayette Park"." <br /> <br />Ayes: Barnes, Elliott, Oast, Wentz, <br />Nays: None <br /> <br />Davis <br /> <br /> 76-401 - "Consideration of a motion approving the proposed changes to the Peach Tree <br />Planned Unit Development as outlined in the revised site plan. <br /> <br /> A letter from the Director of Planning outlining the proposed changes and transmitting <br />the Planning Commission's recommended approval is attached for your information. The City <br />Manager recommends adoption." <br /> <br /> Motion of Mr. Barnes and seconded by Mr. Wentz, to approve the proposed changes to the <br />Peach Tree Planned Unit Development as recommended, was adopted by unanimous vote. <br /> <br /> 76-402 "Consideration of a motion authorizing the City Manager to write a letter to <br />the Commonwealth ~f Virginia's Department of Highways and Transportation supporting student <br />tolls for the students of Isle of Wight County. <br /> <br /> A copy of a letter from the County Administrator of Isle of Wight requesting the City's <br />support is attached for your information. Since Isle of Wight is located within the boundar- <br />ies of the designated planning district 20's geographical area, the City Manager recommends <br />adoption." <br /> <br /> Motion of Mr. Barnes and seconded by Mr. Wentz, that the City Manager be authorized to <br />write letter as toques%ed, was adopted by 4-1 (Oast-nay)~ote. <br /> <br /> 76-405 "Consideration of a resolution appointing viewers for closing portions of the <br />following streets: <br /> <br />(a) A portion of Queen Street, <br />(b) A portidn:zo~fH~kStreet, <br />(c) A portion of Columbia Street, <br />(d) A portion of South Street; and <br />(c) A portion of King Street. <br /> <br /> This resolution appoints viewers pursuant to State Law for the purpose of making a <br />recommendation to City Council. The City Manager recommends adoption." <br /> <br /> On marion of Mr. Wentz and seconded by Mr. Oast, the following resolution wms adopted, <br />and by the following vote: <br /> <br /> "A RESOLUTION APPOINTING VIEWERS FOR CLOSING THE FOLLOWING STREETS: PARCEL I, <br /> A PORTION OF QUEEN STREET, PARCEL II, A PORTION OF HIGH STREET, PARCEL III, <br /> A PORTION OF COLUMBIA STREET, PARCEL IV, A PORTION OF SOUTH STREET, PARCEL V, <br /> A PORTION OF KING STREET. <br /> <br /> WHEREAS, the City of Portsmouth, Virginia, has made application to vacate and close <br />Parcels I, II, III, IV and V, the hereinafter described portions of certain streets, and <br />it appearing that notice of the application and request for appointment of viewers was duly <br />posted September 8, 1976, on the bulletin board of the Circuit Court of the City of Portsmouth <br />the bulletin board of the City Council Chambers of the City of Portsmouth and the bulletin <br />board of the General District Court, Civil Division, of the City of Portsmouth, Virginia. <br /> <br /> <br />
