<br />ANNUAL SPECIALIZED TRAINING FOR THE COMMONWEALTH ATTORNEY AND HIS STAFF."

<br /> The following reports from the City Manager were presented:

<br /> 76-407 - "Consideration of an ordinance on first reading to appropriate $19,685 from
<br />the General Fund for salaries and benefits of two police patrolmen for the Jeffrey Wilson
<br />Housing Project.
<br />
<br /> This appropriation will provide two (2) full-time uniform patrolmen who will work in
<br />conjunction with the two (2) community services officers in a team approach in providing
<br />increased security and to decrease instances of crime in the Jeffrey Wilson Housing Project.
<br />This appropriation will be reimbursed to the City by the Portsmouth Redevelopment and Housing
<br />Authority on a monthly basis. The City Manager recommends adoption on first reading."

<br /> On motion of Mr. Barnes and seconded by Mr. Early, the following ordinance was approved
<br />on first reading, and by unanimous vote:

<br />"AN ORDINANCE TO APPROPRIATE $19,685 FROM THE GENERAL FUND FOR SALARIES AND
<br />BENEEITS FOR TWO POLICE PATROLMEN TO PATROL THE JEFFREY WILSON HOUSING PROJECT."
<br />
<br /> 76-408 - "Consideration of an ordinance to amend the City Code pertaining to feeB for
<br />processing street closure applications.
<br />
<br /> The 1976 General Assembly authorized the fees for processing street closure applications
<br />to be increased from $50 to $100. The City's administrative costs-£Or processing street
<br />closures and reimbursing viewers exceeds the present. The City. Manager recommends adoption."
<br />
<br /> On motion of Mr. Barnes and seconded by Mr. Elliott, the following ordinance was adopted
<br />on first and final reading, and by the following vote:
<br />
<br />"AN ORDINANCE TO AMEND THE CODE OF THE CITY OF PORTSMOUTH, VIRGINIA, 1973,
<br />BY AMENDING SECTION 32-35 THEREOF, PERTAINING TO FEES FOR PROCESSING STREET
<br />CLOSURE APPLICATIONS."

<br /> 76-409 - "Consideration of an ordinance to amend the City Code pertaining to failure to
<br />conn~t to City sewers.
<br />
<br /> This ordinance authorizes the Public Health Director, in the event of a public health
<br />hazard, to take action necessary to correct a public nuisance created by failure to connect
<br />to available sanitary sewers. Such nuisance shall be abated by the Public Health Director
<br />authorizing the Director of Public Utilities to connect to available sanitary sewers at a
<br />minimum cost. Such cost shall be a lien against the real estate and shall be collected by a
<br />manner prescribed by law for the collection of City taxes. The City Manager recommends
<br />adoption."
