~ ~~ . ~ ~M: <br />y Y ~~~ i ~ 2014-99 <br />* r«%~ ~ k x . +a c ~ .-~. _,: ,;max <br />AN ORDINANCE TO AMEND CHAPTER 22 OF THE CODE OF THE CITY OF <br />PORTSMOUTH, VIRGINIA (2006) BY AMENDING SECTIONS 22-561(b) AND <br />22-575 THEREOF PERTAINING TO BACK-IN PARKING IN DESIGNATED <br />AREAS. <br />BE IT ORDAINED by the Council of the City of Portsmouth, Virginia; <br />1. That Sections 22-561(b) and 22-575 of the Code of the City of <br />Portsmouth, Virginia (2006) be amended and reordained to read as follows: <br />Sec. 22-561. Stopping or parking on .highways generally. <br />(b) No vehicle shall be stopped except close to and parallel to the righthand <br />edge of the curb or roadway, except that a vehicle may be stopped close to and parallel to <br />the lefthand curb or edge of the roadway on one-way streets or may be parked at an angle <br />where permitted by posted city signage. Where back-in or front-in parking is required by <br />posted city signage, no vehicle shall be parked in the opposite direction. No vehicle shall <br />be parked or stopped with any of its wheels on or over the curb. <br />Sec. 22-575. Backing to curb. <br />Except where permitted or required by posted city signage, no vehicle shall be <br />backed up to a curb, except during the time actually engaged in loading or unloading <br />merchandise therefrom and then not to obstruct traffic. <br />2. That this ordinance shall take effect on the date of its adoption. <br />ADOPTED by the Council of the City of Portsmouth, Virginia at a meeting held <br />on November 25, 2014. <br />Teste: <br />City Clerk <br />
