2014-59 <br />~~.~s wP <br />AN ORDINANCE AMENDING CITY ORDINANCE NO. 2014-44 TO CORRECT <br />AND LOWER THE ADOPTED CIGARETTE TAX TO 45 MILLS PER <br />CIGARETTE. <br />WHEREAS, during the budget process for the adoption of the budget for Fiscal <br />Year 2014-15, an increase in the cigarette tax rate to $.90 per pack was advertised; and <br />WHEREAS, due to a scrivener's error, the per-pack rate was incorrectly <br />calculated to be 90 mills per cigarette in City Ordinance No. 2014-44; and <br />WHEREAS, the correct rate is 45 mills per cigarette. <br />WHEREAS, City Ordinance No. 2014-44 was duly adopted on May 27, 2014 <br />with the incorrect per-cigarette rate. <br />NOW THEREFORE BE IT ORDAINED by the Council of the City of <br />Portsmouth, Virginia: <br />1. That City Ordinance No. 2014-44 be, and hereby is, amended to establish <br />the cigarette tax rate at 45 mills per cigarette. <br />2. That this ordinance shall be deemed to have taken effect on July 1, 2014 <br />ADOPTED by the Council of the City of Portsmouth, Virginia at a meeting held <br />on July 8, 2014. <br />Teste: <br />City Clerk <br />
